Motivation and Introduction:

Introduce topic and how it relates to what we are going to be doing in PE during the
term.
Discuss and explain a basketball shot with aid from a video of a technically perfect
basketball shot.

Introduce the Ipad application Coaches Eye and describe step-by-step instructions on
how to use it.
Have the students try to use the app and iron out any problems that they are having.

Have students put the ipads face down on their desks


Describe steps for students to follow
- In Pairs students will be given an ipad and a basketball
- Students are to go out in the courtyard and have a turn of having a
basketball shot while their partner films.
- Students are then to swap over so the one who was filming is now
shooting
- Return to class
Supervise and assist students while they complete the activity

Second part of lesson


Once back in class have the students sit back down and show them the original video
again. In pairs, allow them to use the ipads to compare their videos with their partner
and to utilise tools in the applications to analyse it (slow motion, angles).
Bring the groups attention back to the front and with the ipads face down.
Group analysis questions.
What differences did they notice between their shots and the original slow motion shot?
What similarities?
Why did your/their shot work well?
What should be done to improve the shot?
How would you change your shot next time?
Plug a volunteers ipad into the projector and have a whole group analysis
Lesson Closure: (Review lesson objectives with students)
Relate what has been learnt and how we can apply it in the next practical class
Link it to other lessons related to biomechanics and energy transmission.
Overview the Coaches eye app and how the can use it away from class.

General Observation will be used to determine if ipad and coaches eye is used
effectively
Discussion at the end of class will also be used to assess what students learnt and if
the effectively compared and contrasted the shots and can identify what is an effective
an ineffective basketball shot.
