Class size: 20+ students

their real conversation, transform receptive vocabulary into productive vocabulary.
Also, it will focus on accuracy in conversations.
Materials
Handouts(copies for context; meaningful drills; communicative drills)
Procedure (50mins)
- Pre-task activity(5mins)
1. Before the class, T will prepare 20 pieces of paper, on which there is a number(120). Each student picks one number, and sits on the chair which has the same number.
2. T walks into class and greets Ss: Good evening, everybody. How are you feeling
today? Ss answer____.(good/nice/tired...)
T: I`m your student teacher, Echo. Nice to meet you guys. Ss answer: Nice to
meet you, too.
T: Are you familiar with each other? I was not here last week. How about we have
a brief introduction? I`ll give you 30seconds to get known with your neighbors. After
that, we will play a game. I would like you to introduce the name and the job of the
person either on your right hand or the left hand side.
(30 seconds...)
T: Are you ready? OK, let`s start with me. My name is Echo, I am from China.
I`m a senior student in university. Then T delivers an item(such as a ball, a soft toy
or a bottle, etc.) to Ss, back to them and beats the board. No matter when the T stops,
the person who grabs this item will introduce his/her neighbors. There are 3-5 rounds.

- Performing the task(4mins)

1. When game is over, T says: Good job! All right, let`s back to business(our
today`s topic). I`m giving you a short paragraph. This paragraph shows us two close
friends(Mark&Chris) discussing what to do on the weekend. Read it and create a very
short dialogue with your partners. After 3mins, I want some volunteers to do the role
play. Excited? Then T plays a short video where a couple of people perform the task
I want the Ss to perform. IF few Ss are clear, T repeat the direction; IF less than half
of them are not clear, T gives them 15 seconds to talk with each other and makes sure
all of them know what`s going on.
(3 minutes...)
2. T hands out scenarios, on which there is a short paragraph talking about two good
friends making plans for weekend. T lets students make up a conversation, according
to this story. T can solicit some model sentences from students to describe how to plan
an activity. (E.g: - What are you going to do this weekend? - I want to....)
- Role play(4-6mins)
1. T asks for volunteers to perform role-play with their dialogues. When one pair is
performing, the others listen carefully, then give these volunteers comments (avoid
negative words). It`s OK to take notes about the use of prefabs and expressions.
2. When each group finish, other Ss give comments. T can also comment, but on
other Ss` suggestions.
3. If time permits, preferably more groups perform.
- Focus on the context (10mins)
1. After the role play, T passes out copies of context, in which there is a dialogue
talking about making suggestions. T calls on two students to read this dialog.
2. T elicits Ss to analyze this dialog, sentence by sentence, mainly focusing on how
to start a conversation, how to continue it and how to close it. Meanwhile, Ss compare
their own version with the context, and think about expressions which they can put
into their dialogues.
3. At this part, T passes out expression handouts for starting, continuing, and
wrapping up a conversation.
- Post-speaking (5mins)
1. T says: Now you know how to make a conversation. Please talk to you partners
and add some of these new words in your own dialogues in 2 mins, I will ask several
groups to do the role play again.
2. When Ss are discussing, T walks around and take notes.
3. After that, T calls on pairs to perform their dialog. It`s better to call on the same
pairs. ( When time permits. If there are some pairs did not perform before, call on
them; if all of them performed before, T can ask for volunteers.)
4. Then the others students comment volunteers` performance, and say the different
points compared to the former dialogue.

- Presentation(4mins)
1. T tells Ss this dialogue is a conversation about making suggestion, then guides Ss
to find all the expressions that we use when making suggestions in context, orally.
2. Then T gives Ss handout about such expressions, and tells Ss function of these
expressions.
- Practice(6mins)
1. T hands out copies of exercises. Give Ss 3mins to practice the patterns of
expressions which are used in making suggestions. There will be 5 groups in this part.
Each of the group do exercise simultaneously. T, with the class, does the first one as
an example.
2. When Ss are practicing, T walks around and observes their performance.
3. After 3 mins, T calls one several students to share their answers with the class.
- Production/ Communicative Practice(10mins)
1. T: OK, pretend you are the teacher, can anyone tell us what we learned tonight?
If there is anyone who do not understand today`s lesson, make sure they can figure
out from their partners first. Then T gives a hand to them; if no one put up their hands,
T says: Wow, you guys are amazing! Great job. OK, right now, I`ll give each group a
colored stick. Make your conversations on these topics(feel sick/ seeking job/ go to
market/ travel abroad/ making plans for vacation, etc). Don`t forget to use the
expressions we learn today. T continues: Still remember what we learn tonight? Ss:
Making suggestions. T: Yes! Go ahead.
3. When Ss are practicing, T walks around and observes their performance. Do not
interrupt Ss even if they have some grammatical errors.
