Skill - Conversation Teaching points - how to start, continue and close a conversation - how to make suggestions Topic of this lesson is conversation, and students will learn how to start a conversation and make it continue. Moreover, they will learn expressions for making suggestions. Level - adult beginner Number of students - supposed to be 13 students / 3 absent / 1 new student 2. What worked well? Why? Before the class started, I played some music to students who came early. That made them relaxed and got interested in that day`s lesson. In addition, the main teaching part, making suggestions, worked well. I called on two students to read the dialogue that I gave them. After that, I led them to read four sentences and found out the words which are used for making suggestions. I just did these four sentences as an example, then gave them two minutes to found other expressions of making suggestions. Two minutes later, I asked volunteers to share their answers. At this time, I listened to them carefully, and wrote on the board if they got the correct expressions. Next, I asked them how to accept one suggestion as well as refuse other`s suggestions. This part was not the main teaching point. Therefore, I did not explain in detail. Instead, I passed out handouts on accepting and refusing suggestions. Lastly, I gave them exercise worksheets to practice expressions we learned in that lesson. 3. What didn`t work well? Why? Create their own dialogue did not work well in this lesson. At the beginning, I wanted them to work in pairs and create a dialogue in each group, based on the scenario that I gave them. Although I showed them video on how to do this activity, they were still confused and did not understand me. On that part, we spent more time than I expected. Furthermore, some students did not create their conversation orally. They just wrote the dialogue on their notes, individually. This activity form seemed difficult for lower level learners. 4. What changes would you make if you were teach the lesson in the future? It seems difficult for students to create their own dialogues according to a scenario, especially for beginner level. So I would not use this kind of activity if I teach beginners in the future, or I use it after students learn the context.
