The goal of this documentary was to focus on the events of the major partition that took
place in the subcontinent in 1947 when the British left and Pakistan was established. The director
wanted to convey to the audience that the partition was bloody and caused many problems.
Before the partition, Hindus and Muslims didnt hate each other as much. This movement caused
by the partition produced one of the greatest disasters of the 20th Century. The producer of the
documentary wanted to show the truth behind the events that took place during the partition. He
showed us how British leaders failed to keep the situation under control and caused massive
losses. The producer also shows how this partition led to strong established hatred and
intolerance between the different religious communities who were able to get along before the
idea of partition. The Hindus and Muslims could not even stand each other after the Partition.
The Director showed us how politicians failed to understand the qualities of this huge step in
history and not taking into consideration peoples health and interest but rather their own plots.
The documentary gives us a view of what was actually going on at that time and makes us realize
what the cause and effects of the partition were.

As a Pakistani, I know a good amount about the partition and how it took place. It is
general knowledge and I know a few facts about it. Before this documentary, I have read books
and heard stories about the Partition. For example, my own grandmother tells me stories about
what happened during and after the partition. She had to leave everything in her home in India,
to come to Pakistan. I expected to see pain, blood, and suffering in the documentary. Since the
partition was bloody and caused many people to lose their lives. I expected to see fights between
the Hindus and Muslims since after the partition they couldnt stand each other. I also expected
to see some patriotism as the Muslims were proud and wanted another country. They wanted to
separate and have pride n their own country. Some question I had about the partition was that
who caused the partition? Were the British responsible for it? Was the bloodshed necessary?
Could the Muslims have gotten an independent state without all the bloodshed and pain?

The 1947 partition of India and Pakistan was the main subject of the documentary. They
wanted to show the cause and effect of the partition. The director wanted to show how the
partition took place in reality. The documentary spoke about the dark side about the partition and
how racism and biases were born based on political plans. It also showed how many Indians
suffered and were forced to move against their will and many of their possessions taken away
from them. It showed that women were the most affected and had to face the most cruelty.
Everyone in the subcontinent was affected by the partition. People lost their homes, lives, and
families.

I liked the interviews because they showed the personal experiences of the people. The
interviews gave us a good view of what actually happened during the process of the partition.
There were also British soldiers who were present in the events to tell how they were told to
handle the situation. The British soldiers show us the story from the British point of view. Lord
Mountbattens daughter was also interviewed who told how her mother helped the refugees when
the partition had taken place and how her father controlled the last years of British service in
India. Gandhis disciple also showed his experience with Mahatma Gandhi and what his opinions

were about the entire situation. The citizens having observed the whole thing gave information
that no textbook can precisely explain, their emotions were displayed and it was obvious how
badly the partition affected their lives. I saw that none of the moderates wanted this huge
partition but it was bound to happen sooner or later. I have learned that no textbook can show
what actually happened during the partition. These interview given by people who were there
during the partition, are the most accurate way to find out what actually happened. They are the
true source for information.

I liked the part of the documentary, which contained the interviews. It gave us a good
view of what actually happened and I could imagine everything they were saying. Overall the
documentary was pretty good and explained everything. The interviews were the most accurate
things in the documentary as it showed the emotions of people who suffered during the partition.
I learned various things from the documentary. It showed me how many people during the
partition were victimized and treated unfairly. It shows what was actually happening during the
partition.
What surprised me was how much bloodshed and fighting actually took place. Peoples lives
were destroyed and it was total chaos. I was also surprise by the fact that Hindus and Muslims
lived in peace before the partition. The hatred between them now would make you think theyve
hated each other forever. The documentary covered about everything that took place during the
partition. It showed the emotions of the citizens and all the bloodshed that took place. The
documentary proves that the partition was chaotic and caused many people to lose their lives.
