I. Theatre Dance
- One artist who defined the form of dance theatre the most was
Pina Bausch (1940-2009). She was much influenced by the German
expressionist dance of the early 20th century which was developed
by Rudolf Laban, Kurt Jooss, and Mary Wigman.
A. Jazz - Jazz dance is a classification shared by a broad range of
dance styles. Before the 1950s, jazz dance referred to dance styles
that originated from African American vernacular dance.
II. Modern Dance
- a free, expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century
as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included
elements not usually associated with dance, such as speech and film
III. Interpretative Dance
- a dance depicting a story or a definite emotion rather than
following an abstract pattern
A. Coreography - the sequence of steps and movements in dance or
figure skating, especially in a ballet or other staged dance.
