Memesource: A Social Meme Experiment

Our installation focuses on the element of surprise - a drive of arousing curiosity over
viewers, and by misleading their attention for just a mere split-second, a unique and
entertaining sequence of meme images can be made. The art is built within a 4x2 meter dark
room, where inside stands a decorated female manikin entangled in wires and built with
feathered wings. Between you and her is a podium with a voodoo skeleton monkey holding
a metallic ball in between his crossed limbs. Underneath hangs a sign saying
'Please touch my ball'. The moment a viewer does so, the ambient background music
transposes into a more dramatic melody, and accompanying it is the manikin, who begins to
shoot water out of her breasts towards you. The only thing ensuring that the water does not
reach you is a transparent glass between her and the monkey initially no one knows it
ever existed. At the time the water is shot, a sequence of flashed photos is taken of the
viewer(s). When the audience steps out of the room, they are presented with a picture of
themselves of which show their reaction towards what happened inside, as well as an
accompanying meme text that is randomly generated and placed after every photo taken.
Hence, an automatic meme generator personally done by yourself!
