INTRODUCTION:
The topic of this genre analysis is to research the understanding of autism. The purpose is
to go in depth about the understanding of autism by narrowing the topic down into a specific
idea. Narrowing more into the depth into the genre analysis is the hereditary of autism. Autism is
a development disorder that impairs a person to the ability to communicate and interact among
people. Typography is the two genres used to focus on this genre analysis. Both typographies are
articles, A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism by Michael Wigler, and
Genetics of autism spectrum disorders by The National Autistic Society. These genres will go
more into depth to really find out where autism comes from, and how it becomes hereditary.

Audience and Purpose Questions:

Both articles, A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism, and Genetic of
autism spectrum disorder are intended for those wanting to learn about the disorder autism or
curious about how autism is genetically contributed to kids. The article A unified genetic theory
for sporadic and inherited autism, purpose is to inform the audience about the studies of autism
genetics, the change in the DNA, how it links to the parents, and how it can run in the family.
Genetic of autism spectrum disorder, purpose is to inform the audience about where the
disorder came from, how it was diagnosed on twins first, the studies how it became hereditable,
studies on the chromosome, the present studies of the disorder, and how it is the beginning of
understanding autism. The audience ties in with the purpose of the articles to educate about how
autism is genetically imported by the parents and how many significant studies shown how the
change in the DNA sequence and the complex range of phenotypes. These two genres are
composed to encourage general awareness about the understanding of Autism. The audience
would want to know the way bodies work to develop the disorder, how it is mutated from a

couples genes to the baby, how the parents genes develop the disorder, and how doctors study on
families with kids with autism to prove that the outcome of autism is mostly in males. The article
Genetics of autism spectrum disorder, explains to the audience the traits that contribute to the
autism, the studies to show that autism has a very high percent of being hereditable, and how
only one member of the family having autism and none in the extended family.
The first article, A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism it is a long
article; it might take time to read in order to full understand the article. It also has large words,
charts, and formulas that may be referred to while reading the article. The second article, is not a
lengthy article, it can be easy read and understood. This article also refers to charts while reading
during the article to to add more detail. The language in the first article is a very formal, that is
why it should be read carefully to understand what it is trying to explain. The second article is
straightforward; it has somewhat formal language which can be understood. Both article give
medical terms like the disorders mutation name for instants, de novo. There are also words that
may need to be defined in order to understand what the author of the article is talking about.
Both articles are similar in many ways like, they both study on families with a one single child
diagnosed with autism which is called simplex, and study on families that have extended family
also diagnosed with autism which is called multiplex. They both also show that autism is 50%
hereditable, depending on the difference of the DNA while the creation of a child. In the first
article it suggests that autism is mostly among male, and the second one state that it is among
twins.

Rhetorical Issues: Ethos, Pathos, And Logos:

In the article A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism, and Genetic of
autism spectrum disorder gives a general idea to the audience, about how autism is studied and tested

among families with a child with autism or families with passed down history that was diagnosed with
autism. It gives studies shown that autism is hereditary disorders that can be passed know randomly
which cause the DNA deletion and changed in the chromosomes. There are no emotions evoked on both

articles. The articles are informative giving general studies and information about autism. There
are studies shown and served on the articles that can prove the information that is being shared.
In the article Genetic of autism spectrum disorder it can be explained in the terminology box
one and two the difference between DNA in a person with autism and a person that does not have
autism. In the article, A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism there is a table
that show the number of male children and numbers of number of males with autism. The
similarities between both articles are the way they explain the deletion of the DNA and the
number of chromosomes a child with autism has. A difference is that the article A unified
genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism states that environmental risk can be a cause of
autism, and A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism, does not state any
information about environmental risk being a factor of autism. There was no evidence left out of both
genres, they both state how the De Novo mutation genetically in transformed into the disorder autism.

Structure and Delivery:

Both genres are shaped in chronological order, they go from how autism came along,
studies on families and children, the mutation on the chromosomes, the deletion of the DNA ,
and finding of the De Novo mutation to be discovered more increasingly in the next few years.
They convey the idea of the topic throughout the article leading the reader in the right direction
and showing proof through graphs or more detailed structure of a paragraph along the time the
reader is reading. Most words that are important throughout the articles will be inserted as a
different color from the reading. There are also graphs, formulas, and boxes throughout the

article that give more detail about the topic, like in the article, Genetic of autism spectrum
disorder it shows a picture of the chromosomes of an autistic person.

Conclusion/Synthesis:
The most effective genre for this topic was, Genetic of autism spectrum disorder
because it was more readable, it gave more reliable answers, and was not so confusing like the
second article, A unified genetic theory for sporadic and inherited autism. It stayed in
chronological order, and gave pictures, and it went more into detail. It gave the history and
answers to the topic of this project. Overall the genres do fit the topic perfectly for the genre
analysis topic, they give specific detail, and also give the audience a better understanding about
autism.
