MISSION
The Greater Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition is a community-based initiative that consists of health
care providers, caregivers, community leaders, organizations and allies, all with the goal of fostering
positive health and safety outcomes within the citys gender and sexually diverse communities. This
includes, but is not limited to, becoming a visible voice of advocacy for gender and sexually diverse
clients, educating and providing inclusive wellness resources and filling data gaps in research.

Stonewall Columbus Health & Wellness Month: Stonewall will be expanding their Health &
Wellness series to an entire month this year. Visit

Meet Your Citys LGBTQ Health Advocates: Columbus Public Health will be hosting a special
recruitment event for the coalition in partnership with Stonewall during their Health & Wellness
Month. Please join us as we re-introduce the coalition and the LGBTQ Health Imitative to the
community! March 26, 2015 at 6:30-8 p.m. at Columbus Public Health.
April is Minority Health Month!: We are partnering with the Office of Minority Health here at
CPH to present a special community conversation on April 1 as the official kick-off to Minority
Health Month here is Columbus. Thinking Past Race: Health Disparities in Minority
Communities is set for Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 6-8 p.m. in the CPH Auditorium. A
community health resource fair will be held prior to the event at 5-7 p.m. More information on the
months full list of events is coming soon.
Ohio Harm Reduction Conference: The first statewide Ohio Harm Reduction Conference has
been scheduled for March 27, 2015 at Quest Conference Center at Polaris, 8405 Pulsar Place.

APPENDIX A
The Greater Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition
Data, Research and Evaluation Committee (DRE)

UPDATE
In preparation for the 2015 conference (October), the DRE committee will be shifting gears. We have set
aside the justification sorting/editing and begin working on our role at the conference. At the November
meeting, we agreed to act as the conference data collection team; and in our 12/15 meeting, we (Caitlin
and I) began to define what that looks like. We are fortunate to have access to a "clicker" system that
will allow interactive surveying of those who attend the conference, so we plan to make use of it.
As the conference data team, our goals are:
To determine the success of the conference/satisfaction of the attendees using pre and post

surveys at opening and closing programs.

To inquire about attendees' healthcare knowledge and experience.
To assess attendees' perception of our community's healthcare system.
To learn what attendees' needs are and how the coalition can help.

General demographic data will be asked when participants register online. We can work with the
committee assigned to conference registration to add other questions if needed. We are also interested
in knowing if participants are interested in taking future surveys - building an army of survey takers.
In addition to collecting our own data, we can offer the conference speakers an opportunity to use the
interactive system in their presentations.
We have outlined a task schedule:
2/16/15 DRE meeting - Develop survey questions (pre, post, other) as examples for a World Cafe

exercise with coalition o 3/16/15

3/16/15 Coalition meeting - Lead a World Cafe-style exercise to determine what information the

coalition would like to collect from the conference participants.

4/20/15 DRE meeting - Finalize survey questions.
5/18/15 coalition meeting - present surveys to general body

APPENDIX B
Community Outreach and Engagement Committee Meeting Minutes
UPDATE
Attendees: Adrian Neil-Hobson, Galen Roth, Julie Applegate, Jessica Herman, Un Jung
Lim, Ellen Rapkin and Colleen Dempsey
The committee agreed that our focus for now should be on bringing awareness to the coalition
in an effort to make the coalition more effective and known.
I.
Health Impact Leadership Award
a. The committee decided that the award ceremony would be held in conjunction with
the LGBTQ Health Initiative Conference in October 2015
b. The award launch will be in March of 2015
c. Committee will develop a new timeline
d. Colleen created the initial nomination form for the award
e. The committee decided that the award tracks will be: Healthcare Provider,
Advocate, Emerging Healthcare Leader, Lifetime Achievement, Legislator and
Agency of the Year
f. Committee will work on logistics for award ceremony (nomination process, venue,
etc.)
II.

LGBTQ Health Coalition-The committee came up with some ways on how we

can improve
a. Create a Kona account for the coalition to be able to get minutes, notes,
committee updates, training material, etc.
b. Start developing different trainings and materials in order to gain and keep interest
of future and current members
c. Start having a presence at all major events that deal with LGBTQ health and
safety (physical representation or hot card/flyer)
d. Start researching different websites
e. Develop a protocol for membership (why would people want to join the coalition?)
f. Zach created a elevator speech that will be distributed among the coalition

III.

Things to think about

a. Sponsorships for the award and the conference
b. Thinking about the finance for the coalition (conferences, trainings, event, etc.)
*Possible becoming a 501(c)(3)
c. Create a master calendar for all upcoming events for the coalition to be at
d. Create a list of ideas for events that the coalition could create
e. Coalition Newsletter for community, business, organizations, etc.

Advocacy & Policy Committee UPDATE
Hello, All,
I'm writing to give an update on what was discussed at our last meeting and to let you know that
I have a workshop in Huntington on the 19th and won't be able to attend our meeting.
1. At our last meeting, Dwayne said that he and an intern would be working with Colleen
Dempsey to further develop our "call for abstracts" for the upcoming conference.
2. We need to talk with the "good seal" ad hoc committee (Julie) to get more details about the
process, so that we can offer up the benefits of attending the conference. What is the criteria,
and how will it be structured? If the professionals can earn "points" at the conference, we said it
would be a great jump start for them.
3. Will the conference have a keynote speaker on Friday? If so, whom, and will we offer an
honorarium? If an honorarium is offered, how much would it be, and from where will the funds
come?
4. We'd like to have a panel during lunch on Saturday. Who would make good panelists?
5. Dwayne - Is it feasible to have vendors for tabling?
6. Dwayne - How can we offer OSU grad students internship hours for staffing during the
conference?
7. Dwayne - Will there be a charge for 1) registration and 2) professional development?
8. Dwayne - Will we be able to offer scholarships for Friday and/or Saturday?
9. Kim is creating an agenda, so we know what time slots and tracks need to be filled.
10. Debbie is working on the social work and BRCH accreditation.
11. I am gathering names for the potential keynote and panelists. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
We were planning to meet on Thursday to follow-up with this "to-do" list, but as I said earlier, I
won't be there. I hope it's not to late to either reschedule or to go ahead and reserve the room. I
can call in if someone wants to/is able to conference call. We set the meeting time from 3-4pm.

Ad Hoc Committee: Seal of Approval Program UPDATE
Hello All,
Please find the notes from our Good Seal/Accreditation/Ad Hoc committee meeting yesterday. To
summarize, we settled on the idea of aiming for a resource directory of Pride Providers who will be
screened annually with a series of questions similar to the list found below. Our to do list for the next
meeting is as follows:
1. Come to March Coalition meeting with a feedback on this idea and additional questions
2. In the April meeting we will trim down our proposed questions and come up with a solid draft of
questions to be asked
3. Get approval for these questions from the Coalition in May
4. Begin recruiting providers May-August
5. Publish list (online or otherwise) by October 1st .

As a reminder the LGBTQ Health Equity Conference has been scheduled for October 30 and 31.
