Katie spent the first semester of this school year interning in a regular education
placement at WHRC Elementary School ina 4th grade classroom, where she taught
all subject areas. WHRC is a unique public school that has an open design. The
classrooms do not have doors. The open classroom environment is to promote and
support team teaching. WHRC is a multi culturally diverse K-6 elementary school.
Tt is also the largest elementary school in Pontiac, with approximately 620
students. Our 4th grade classroom has 12 boys and 15 girls that have a wide range
of academic abilities and learning styles. Two students receive learning center
services, two students receive speech services, and 7 students receive ESL
services.

Katie is a skilled and thoughtful teacher. She is very organized and thorough in her
planning. She was always prepared and did extra research for her lessons, Katie did
a great job at adding technology to many of her lessons. The use of technology
made her lessons come to life and engaged the students. Katie comfortably taught
all subject areas even though new curriculum had been adopted this year. She
taught: Reader's Workshop, Guided Reading, Writer's Workshop, Math Workshop,
and Every Day Math just to name a few. Katie did a wonderful job at
differentiating instruction and making accommodations. She is very in tune with
our students and makes certain that learning is engaging and fun at all levels.

Katie is a natural at working with students. She is kind and compassionate. Not only
has she developed relationships with our students but she has also developed
relationships with their parents too. Katie gives of herself and of her time daily to
help our students. She reports to the cafeteria 30 minutes early daily to do
homework club. She also dines with a group of students daily at lunch, At the end
of the day she walks the “pick upers" right to their car and makes a positive
comment to the parents. Katie also is not afraid or intimidated by naughty. If a
student is not making an appropriate behavior choice Katie redirects them by
reminding them of her high expectations. Katie goes above and beyond all
expectations to ensure that all of our students are successful. Because of this, our
Students respect and love her.
Working and Learning ina School and Profession
Katie fully embraced working at our school. She attended all staff meetings (she
even presented at one), professional developments, parent/teacher conferences
(Katie led some of them), and attended bi monthly PBLS meetings where she took
the committee notes. Katie worked collaboratively and professionally with
students, staff, and parents.
