PROBLEM SESSION 8 Plane Trusses
(Monday/Wednesday April 14/16, 2014)

Exercise I/II:
Use the method of joints throughout the exercise.
For the plane truss shown in Figure I, calculate the internal forces in all three members and the
reactions for the given loads, starting with joint B. Use the external equations of equilibrium as
a check for reactions at the end.
Repeat the problem by starting with the using the external equations of equilibrium to calculate
the reactions first, then compute the internal member forces.
