He Is All That I Need

The LORD is my shepherd;

I will not be in want.
Psalm 23:1
Needs and wants! It will never stop. Mans
craving for material things will never come to an end.
When we go to the mall we can see people buying
things that are not even very essential to them. And
every time a new model of the same item will come
out of the market, many people will be so excited to
have that one even the old is still useful and
functional. Two months pa lang sa kanya ay ayaw na,
kasi may lumabas na bago at mas maganda ang
porma. If you have money, you can have everything
you want. Money can make your life complete because
you can have all the things you want that gives you
satisfaction. That is the worlds perspective.
Man is also yearning for a partners love. That
life will end if he loses the one he love. Mamamatay
ako pag nawala ka, ikaw lang ang buhay ko. This is a
common line we hear from someone who is desperate
for love. It seems that the love he can get to someone
is the only source of life and the only reason to live.
It is said that the essential needs of man to keep
breathing is food, shelter and clothing. When you have
these things then you can survive. You have foods for
your stomach; you have clothes to keep your body
warm and a shelter as your protection from all kinds of
weather.

But life is not just about breathing. It is about

knowing The One who gives us breath. Life is not
about us. Its about the Life Giver.
David exclaims, The LORD is my shepherd.
David knew the Lord. He is God. There was a
REVELATION. God revealed Himself to David. The
original inscription of this verse will speak to us the
attribute of the word LORD. The Lord here is not a
person of our kind. He is not just a man from a high
class family or society that makes him Lord. He is not
just a master or a boss. He is the God who created the
universe. He is the Almighty God. And David knew
Him.
Man cannot find God according to his own
limited capacity but once God reveals Himself to us
then we can experience Him. And David experience
God because He presented Himself to him. God
showed Himself to David in a way that maybe none of
us may experience. But God has His own very special
way of revealing Himself to every person.
God is not hiding today. He wants everyone to
know Him. The Bible is Gods special way of
introducing Himself. God is revealing Himself to you
and me because He wants us to know Him. It is true
that we cannot comprehend the mind of God and
understand the totality of His character but we can
know Him according to the things that He revealed to
us. And once you know Him, you can experience Him.
The Bible is Gods own Word. And through His written
Word, you can know Him.
Do you have time reading and studying the
Bible?

The Lord is my shepherd. This is a picture of

an intimate RELATIONSHIP. David has a relationship
with the Lord. God is Davids personal shepherd. There
is an intimate relationship between David and God.
David acknowledged that he is like a sheep that needs
a shepherd.

on the cross so we can experience the fullness of life.

You can be close to the Good Shepherd by
acknowledging that you need Him and you cannot do
anything apart from Him He is all you need.
He
must be the only God and Saviour of your life.
Are you willing to let Jesus take control of your
life?

Lets talk about the sheep. It is a smelly,

stubborn and stupid animal. A sheep without a
shepherd has a miserable life. The sheep with no
shepherd is always in danger. There is a wolf around
the field that is very strong to devour the weak sheep
any time. It is very hard for a sheep to live without a
shepherd feeding, guiding, protecting and cleaning it.
The Prophet Isaiah said that we are all like
sheep that has gone astray. Man is living a life away
from his God, like a sheep living away from a
shepherd.
God does not want us to just know Him. He
wants us to have a personal
relationship
with
Him.
He
revealed Himself to you so you
can respond to Him and allow
Him to take control of your life.
Nagpakilala ang Diyos sayo para
maging close kayo. He is not just an ordinary
shepherd. Jesus said that He is the Good Shepherd and
He is very willing to offer His life to His friend the
sheep. Because of our stubbornness our lives become
in danger. And because we are dirty, smelly and
stupid we are not welcome to the Paradise the
heaven. But the Good Shepherd took all our dirt and all
our iniquities were laid upon Him on the cross. He died

I will not be in want. This is a strong

statement of total RELIANCE. David has this
assurance that he will not lack anything. God will take
care of him and he will never be in want because God
is not just enough. God is more than enough in his life.
David did not put his allegiance in any man but
in God alone. He was not afraid to do the will of God
because he is confident that God is able to bless his
life.
I shall not be in want is a statement that life is
not about the sheep but its all about the Shepherd.
The life of a sheep is in the hand of the Shepherd. And
the sheep do not look on what he wants but what the
Shepherd wants. Life is about pleasing the Life Giver. It
is all about giving God pleasure.
It is not wise to find your pleasure on the things
that this world offers. This is for sure, that your life will
end soon. Everything that your hands had produced
will also vanish. But the life that is surrendered to God
will be treasured and will never be wasted. Apostle
Paul said that to live is Christ and to die is gain. You
can find the essence of life in Christ alone. And you will
surely say that all you need is Him. Death will never be
a threat because Jesus gives eternal life.

You are not commanded to worry but to rely on

God and lay upon Him all the areas and issues of your
life. Remember that He is God! Nothing is impossible
to Him. So, just lean on Him!
It is a gain when you give your life to Jesus the
Good Shepherd. You will lose nothing if you let Him

control your life. God wants to reveal Himself to you,

experience Him and have a real relationship with Him.
Mahal ka ng Diyos! He really loves you! And He is all
that you need!
