Herbalists, also sometimes called herbal practitioners and licensed herbalists, are
specially trained in the field of herbal medicine. An herbalist uses plants and other
natural substances to improve health, promote healing, and prevent and treat
illness.

Medical herbalists are health care providers trained in Western orthodox medical
diagnosis who use plant based medicines to treat their patients. In the UK medical
herbalists have the right to primary diagnosis.

Education Requirements:
1200 hours
1200 hours Total study of Basic Human Sciences, Botany, Pharmacy

400 hours
400 hours Clinical work

Licensing
Currently no state-level licensing for herbalists
Non licensed credentials include the Diplomate in Chinese Herbology offered by
the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
(NCCAOM)
