Lie-Nielsen Studio Bench

This is the bench Tom wishes he had thirty-five years ago, when, as a young
woodworker, he wrangled his giant workbench up six flights of narrow stairs to his tiny
Brooklyn apartment. Finally, a bench designed for the serious urban woodworker. Our
Studio Bench is perfect for woodworkers with small shops or living in tight spaces. But
dont be deceived by its small size, it is every bit as rugged as its larger cousins, the
Improved and Roubo Benches.
The top is 4 thick solid maple. Overall length is 60, including the tail vise handle.
Width is 20, excluding the shoulder vise. No skirt, no tool tray, just plenty of clamping
surface. The top is machined flat within a tolerance of plus or minus .010. We
recommend that the bench be re-flattened, as needed, every year or two.
Trestle legs are 2-3/4 square and flush with the front of the bench. The front stretcher is
4 wide and flush to the front of the legs and bench top. Drawbored mortise and tenon
joints.
The rugged tail vise has 5 of travel, with a non-traditional no L-block maple jaw. The
shoulder vise is a chain-drive twin-screw vise, with 12 spacing between the screws, 7
of travel, and a 19-1/4 maple jaw. The vises can be positioned for either right or left

Benches are supplied with two vise handles and two wooden square bench dogs. Dog
holes are 29/32 x 1-1/8.
Standard bench height is 35. We can make your bench from 30 to 38 high to suit your
preference.
Made of Hard Maple, a native hardwood that is stable, heavy and tough. The Lie-Nielsen
Studio Bench weighs in at approximately 175 pounds.
Lie-Nielsen benches are finished with a 3-part mixture of spar varnish, boiled linseed oil
and mineral spirits. This traditional finish seals the wood, but does not make it slippery.
The finish will need to be renewed from time to time.
