Dear [insert principals name here],
I am writing to express my enthusiasm in having learned of the opening listed on
the Deer Valley Unified School District website for a 7 th grade Language Arts teacher
at [inset name of junior high school here]. My name is Molly Britton and I recently
graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in Secondary Education with a
concentration in English. Having recently graduated from the Mary Lou Fulton
Teachers College, I am excited to apply what I have learned to my own junior high
school Language Arts classroom. As part of the iTeachAZ program, I have completed
three semesters (225 hours) of clinical observations along with five months of fulltime student teaching with well-qualified, experienced English educators.
My instructional planning, lesson delivery, and content knowledge skills will allow
me to perform this job successfully. With over two years of experience writing and
executing English lesson plans for students in grades 7-12, I have honed my
instructional planning, public speaking, and content knowledge in this area. The
instructional plans that I develop demonstrate my ability to effectively implement
the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards and engage my students in
innovative activities that build 21st-century skills. As a Student Ambassador for the
Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, I regularly spoke in front of groups of
undergraduate students about college programs and student involvement
opportunities. My experience giving presentations as a Student Ambassador has
assisted me in delivering interactive lectures to middle and high school students.
My education at Arizona State University has exposed me to various literary works
and has provided me with in-depth knowledge of the English language and
literature. I am able to share this information with my students through my
facilitation of critical thinking activities that engage them in the course content.
My objectives for the classroom are to make each student feel like his or her unique
ideas and perspectives are valued. I hope to create a classroom environment in
which students are able to work together to construct knowledge. I will welcome
student and parent feedback in regards to the curriculum in order to ensure that my
students are receiving a relevant English education that will prepare them for
college and the real world.
As a graduate of the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, I have been well prepared to
teach English Language Arts. I am very excited about this opportunity and believe
that my skills, experience, and abilities will be a valuable asset to your school
community. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you in greater

detail regarding this position. I can be reached via cell phone at (623) 889-1509 or
by email at Molly.Britton@asu.edu. Thank you for your consideration and I look
forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,

Molly Britton
