Fairy Tale Project

Before we had calculators how did people solve equation that had big
numbers? How did the Greek, Romans, and Egyptians do it? You might say
they just use their brains, but no youre wrong they prayed to the gods and
the gods solved it for them. Everyone would pray and gifted the gods if they
had any math equations they cant solve. The Egyptians prayed to Osiris
(because he was wise), the Greeks prayed to Athena Goddess of wisdom,
and the Romans prayed to Minerva goddess of wisdom.

Alexander the Great was the student of Aristotle. Alexander was giver
an equation to solve at home. The equation was different from others he had
solved before; none of his formula would work with the equation. He prayed
to Athena and said, Dear Mistress Athena the goddess of wisdom, will you
solve for x in 2x 4(4-3x) = x + 10. Thank You. When Athena heard it
accepted his wish.

First, you simplify 4(4-3x) then it makes the equation 2x 16 - 12x = x

+ 10. Next, transpose 16 with x which makes 2x x 12x = 16 + 10. Now,
you solve the left side which is 2x x - 12x and then you have -11x =16 +10.

Now, you solve 16 + 10 and you have -11x=26. After that, you divide both
sides by -11 (this is called property of equality) but you cant divide 26 by
-11 so you just put it into fraction form. So now you have x = -26/11 which is
the final answer.
After Athena solved it she told Alexander the answer in his dreams.
Then the next day came and Alexander gave Aristotle the answer. Aristotle
was impressed because he knew Alexander didnt learn the way to solve the
equation yet.

While in Egypt the son of a Pharaoh (King) named Tut. He was given
and equation by his teacher too. The equation he was given was 6x + 2 3x
-7. He cant solve the equation because he never learnt what this symbol
means. So Tut prayed to Osiris to solve the equation for him.

First, you transpose 2 with 3x when equals to 6x 3x -2 -7. Now you

subtract 6x with 3x, which leaves you with 3x -2 -7. So you solve the other
side, take -3 subtract with 7 and it equals to -9. Now the equation looks like
this 3x -9. Lastly, take 3 and divide with both sides. Now you have x -3
and that is your answer.

After Osiris solved the problem, he kindly asked his mother Nut the god
of the sky to write the answer in the clouds. She did as her son requested
and wrote the answer to Tuts equation in the clouds. The next morning as
Tut woke up he look to the sky and saw the answer to his equation.
In Rome a boy name Octavius the nephew of Julius Caesar was
studying and his teacher gave him homework. His homework was to solve
one math equation, the math equation was -3x + 4 < 2x + 19. Octavius
never did an equation with negative numbers so he didnt know how to do it.
As you know Octavius prayed to Minerva for some help.

So the first thing is to transpose the 4 and 2x and you have -3x 2x <
-4 + 19. So first you solve -3x 2x and it you have -5x < -4 + 19. Secondly
you solve 4 + 19 and you have
-5x < 15. Now you divide both sides with -5 so it equals to x > -3. If you can
tell the right -3 is now less than x, this was switched because we had to
divide with a negative number.

Minerva solved the equation and she gave Octavius the answer by
letter a bird deliver a message with the answer. Octavius went to school and
impressed everyone by working with negative numbers.

Now in modern day as a boy name Sambath wanted to finish his Fairy
Tale Algebra project for his math class but he must solve one last equation to
finish it. The equation that he choose is 2(3-4x) + 3 < 7. This boy didnt pray
to the god because it would take to long since he needs to finish by today. He
couldve started earlier but he was lazy so now he depends on himself.

To solve the equation, first you must simplify 2(3-4x). After simplifying
it youll get 6 8x + 3 < 7. Now you need to transpose 3 and 6, and then
solve 7- 3 -6. After solving it youll get 8x < -2. As you realize 8 cant divide
-2 then you put it into fraction form witch equals too x < -2/8 as the final
answer.

After the boy solved the equation he was able to get his project
finished. This boy was the only boy that didnt depend on god because he
believed in himself, just like if the other boys did they wouldve solved it too.
So remember always believe in your self.

THE END

Significance

Doing this type of project can be a good learning skill for math because
it helps the students explain to themselves the problem. Its better than just
solving the problem, its understanding it. When a student just solves the
problem they know how to use different formulas to do it but understanding
you can even create your own formulas to solve the problem. Also when you
explain to yourselves what the problem is about mostly you wouldnt need
help. That is why doing project like this helps you understand the problem
and its easier for you in the future.
