Demonstrated professional responsibility

and accountability to collaboratively plan,
implement and/or evaluate a health
promotion project relevant to the
community population served, using
elements of the course website such as the
learning system and regular,
punctual communication with preceptor
and faculty.

Throughout the course of my placement, I believe

my strongest skills involved collaborating with
my partner, remaining organized, and developing
a professional relationship with my preceptor.
Jennifer was an excellent preceptor to have
because she was very approachable and I made
sure before every decision involving the school, I
would address her for her input either via e-mail
or in person. Even with her busy schedule, I
would assure I organized times to meet to discuss
our progress and steps going forward. I would
take any input into consideration and find a way
to implement suggestions to enhance our health
promotion project to achieve a greater level of
effectiveness.

Applied their knowledge to support

population assessment, collaborative and
evidence informed health promotion
project development, implementation and
process and outcome evaluation.

After completing a necessary critical needs

assessment, windshield survey, and required
research, I applied all of the necessary knowledge
I gained to apply it to my health promotion
project. I also incorporated the evaluation
strategies regarding the implementation of our

presentations in each class. For the younger

grades, I assured that the children understood
through demonstration of the proper hand
washing technique, which the majority of
students were able to exhibit. To determine the
outcome evaluation, I determined that the
teachers would be a valid source to observe any
noticeable change. So I provided an e-mail for the
teachers feedback regarding the changes (if any)
and any recommendations for future reference.
This provides the opportunity for the teachers to
have their input while providing a valuable
source for our evaluation.
Demonstrated ethical respectful and
professional practice when working with
community organizations and the
population with whom they work.

Demonstrated knowledge of relational

I do believe I have demonstrated ethical practice

in this clinical setting through a number of
methods:
- I made the students a primary concern
- While in the school setting, I maintained
privacy and confidentiality among students
and staff
- By wearing my name tag, I clearly represent
myself with respect to my role as a nursing
student
- I promote professional communication with
both my preceptor and staff
Through all of these methods, I have maintained
a professional and respectful demeanor with
every member in the agency.
Through establishing a professional contact at the

practice in project
development, respectful of group process,
leadership/followership, and collaborative
practice to meet the needs and build
capacity of the population in the given
context.

Demonstrated self-regulation through the

development of a project plan and
milestones, learning plan, and ability to
independently seek means to meet goals,
reflect, and respond professionally to
feedback to meet learning and project
goals that align with the SONs program
goals and the Community Health Nursing
Standards of Practice in Canada.

Health Unit, I was able to receive the required

resources necessary to create an effective health
promotion project regarding hand hygiene. By
assuming that responsibility, I took on a
leadership role in deciding when our
implementation would occur and creating a
schedule for classes to sign up for a specific time
slot. Collaborating with a partner has allowed me
to strength my cooperation skills and relinquish
some control which I usually have difficulty
accepting.
As mentioned earlier, self-regulation is a key
strength I demonstrated throughout this clinical
practice as we were given a lot of freedom and
control in regards to both the topic and
development of our project. Through completing
the praxis notes biweekly, I had the opportunity
to reflect on my experiences, which is an
essential aspect of nursing. This allowed me to
analyze my experiences, identify my strengths
and weaknesses, and determine appropriate
actions for the future. I also set goals for what to
accomplish each week and adhered to those goals
to ensure progress.
