The use of a model allows for quick
assessment.
The model builds upon itself for student
success.
Smaller increments of lessons are valuable
for student success.
Frequent informal assessments allow
teachers to guide instruction properly.

Week 4

Evidence of Mastery in Grade

Spans

8th grade student, Cristian,

was able to explain his
thinking process along with
the formula for solving and
graphing. However, he had
erred in correctly graphing
when he forgot the rule of
inverse operation when
using standard form to
solve and graph. This was a
case of misunderstanding
the mathematical process,
rather than mathematical
language

Deeper understanding of the difference

between erring from mathematical process
and erring because of mathematical language.

Challenging students to understand the

difference to help create their success.

Reflection

MIAA 330 has given me an extended tool box of

strategies to use to help my students achieve a great
level of success in mathematics. Learning to use a
variety of responses in Designing Authentic
Assessments, such as extended response, selected
response and constructed response to assess the
understanding of student learning. I have gained a
higher understanding of value of the informal
assessments as well as the summative data. By using
frequent, informal assessment, I will be better at
assessing needs quicker for the success of all students
in mathematics.
