The War on Resources

Everyone here loves the Earth. This world is so deeply cherished

because it gives us resources, land, and most of all, life. Earth is our
safe haven. It contains everything we own and love; however, people
still take this planet for granted. The general public is oblivious to the
fact that the Earth can only do so much. Earth can only have so many
resources. Earth can only have so much land. Earth can only have so
much life harvesting it, but we can keep this planet functioning if we
can just stay between the capacities in which Earth, itself can take.
People must stop taking from this planet, and start giving to this
planet. That is the only way life, itself can survive.
We, Americans, are completely unaware how resources like water,
food, and land that control our currently advanced lives are slowly
becoming scarce. These daily necessities that we take for granted are
dwindling on top of a slippery slope, just waiting to be tipped down.
According to worldhunger.org there are one and a half billion people
that die of malnourishment per year, and twenty percent of the world
population have no home to go to at night; nor a bed to rest in, or even

a place to keep warm in the winter (Black. Web). Most people in the
United States, like us here today, dont usually see this everyday, for
we are lucky to live in a country that controls the most resources in the
world, but this dose not mean we should forget about all the other
people, that are just like us that are succumbed to a darkness of
poverty and famine. We must not live in this world and just turn a blind
eye; we must live in this world together and look beyond ourselves.
The lack of resources around the world cause many countries to
desperately attack others for their own necessities. Iraqs invasion of
Kuwait in 1990 for example was all for oil reserves, and it killed four
thousand people. They fought for their survival and the pleasures in
their life. They fought because they have nothing to lose- in some
cases death would be better than life. These wars are the bloodiest of
wars and they usually kill thousands of innocent civilians.
These wars could be reduced if we share our knowledge to the
world- for example our knowledge of advanced agriculture. According
to investopedia.com the United States ranks number one producer in
corn and wheat; this is so because the U.S. achieves great research
advancements to improve fertilizers, herbicides, seeds, and the
different tools to harvest the plants (Olson, Web). Other countries, like
Bangladesh, Bolivia, and many more, do not have this modern
agricultural advancement; therefore, a lot of problems will occur. From
crops failing, to people starving, from villages vanishing to whole

societies plunging into chaos feeding their own fire. The more than
thirty percent of countries in the world that do not use advance
agriculture have their food prices sky rocketing upwards, and that is
when people get angry- causing riots and rebelling against their
country. This must be stopped. We must help these people learn the
ways of modern agriculture, and help them use their own land
efficiently.

Garrett 3

We must not declare war with each other for resources; we must
declare friendship with each other for resources. We must share our
discoveries. We must put our minds together to fight for our survival.
We must consider ourselves not as countries, but as a whole world. For
God has made us as equals.
I know it is hard to grasp suffrage that you have not yet felt for
yourself, but you must know of suffrage other than yours. Have you
ever had the feeling of pain in your gut, sucking your insides in as if
there is a black void sucking up your living soul; have you ever had the
feeling of weakness, since there is no food to energize your body; have
you ever had the feeling of desperation, as though you would give
anything for one tall glass of water, because one glass might just save
your life of a suffering death from dehydration; have you ever had the
feeling of depression, as though there is no reason to live anymore,
because there is no way to live anymore; if you have not felt this side

of darkness before, you should think about how others go through

these harsh thoughts everyday.
We must end the suffrage of mankind. We must take some of the
burden off of others to give them a fair chance in life. We must help
this world as a whole. We must lead the land that we love. My
question for you here today is what will you do for this planet? This
may take years, or decades, or even centuries, but we must start. And
we will start today.
