Crisis Plan for the Kansas

City Power & Light District

A. What is a crisis?
An extreme event that effects the Kansas City Power & Light
Districts reputation, credibility, financial situation that the news
media would further investigate.
Felonies/Misdemeanors:
Murder
Sexual relations between employees
Criminal activity by guest
Criminal activity by employees
Weapon encounters
Physical abuse
Disease/Sickness:
Spread of a disease (Ebola, AIDS, Swine Flu, etc.)
Food Poisoning/E. Coli on a mass scale
Infestation of bugs (cockroaches, gnats, etc.)
Complaints
Lawsuits that go public
Threatening complaints to the media
Denial of service at restaurants, shops or events
Child abandonment during events
Fundraising abuse allegations
Other
Fire/Natural Disaster
Suicide
o Of employee
o Of customer
o Of pedestrian
Death of a construction worker
B. Notification Procedure
In the moment of an emergency/crisis the employee in charge must
contact the Marketing Director and President of the company, Nick
Benjamin.
Step 1:
Notify Marketing Director and President. If the Marketing Director
isnt available, contact the Office Director who will then fill the

position as the Marketing Director. If the President doesn't


answer contact the Security Director as they will fulfill the duties.
The Marketing Director will get all information and facts about
the incident.
The President will act as the go to for all employees. Holding
meetings, gatherings and support for all the internal employees
during and after the event.
Step 2:
The staff will be contacted by all General Managers within 30
minutes following the event
o Phone calls will be made to higher ranking employees
then to lower ranking staff members
No employee is to make a statement to the media unless
approved by one of the following:
o President
o Marketing Director
o Security Director
o Office Director

D. Guidelines for handling reporters
1. All news inquires are to be directed to the President and/or
Marketing Director.
2. Do not volunteer to cover the media if you are not trained on the
topic or given the authority from either the President or
Marketing Director.

3. Get all information approved by the police, board and President.


4. Never tell any inaccurate or misleading information
a. Respond to the media with factual information in a timely
manner
b. Dont respond with no comment but rather we are
looking into the matter
E. Afterwards
Release a final statement to the media regarding any actions or
steps taken forward
Compile all records of the crisis (newspaper clippings, TV
Reports, social media comments, etc.)
Determine if and how the crisis could have been handled in a
better way
Make changes to the plan as needed
Implement an after action review to identify what went well in
handling the crisis

a. Secure the area and not allow any outside customers
inside the area
b. Block off any and all areas for media, police and any other
service personnel as needed

a. Instruct all the general managers of the stores, restaurants
and gym of the crisis and the next steps being taken.
