Basic Photography Types of Photography Assignment

For this project, students will investigate a number of different types of photography and organize their
findings into a PowerPoint presentation. ALL of the following types of photography must be included:
1. Advertising Taking pictures of products (food, cars, etc.) for commercial purposes. Fashion
photography is considered a separate field.
2. Aerial Pictures captured from a high altitude, such as planes, balloons, parachutes,
skyscrapers, etc.
3. Artistic Photography in which creative composition is the primary goal.
4. Baby/Child A special field of portrait photography focusing on babies and young children.
5. Celebrity/Paparazzi A special field of portrait photography focusing on candid shots of famous
people.
6. Cityscape Photography that focuses on cities and urban areas.
7. Event Photographs taken at special events, such as weddings, concerts, and parties.
8. Fashion Captures models in a glamorous light and displays fashion items such as clothes, shoes
and other accessories.
9. Forensic Photography taken at an accident or crime scene for legal purposes.
10. Landscape Shows spaces within nature, usually involving little or no human activity.
11. Long Exposure Using a very slow shutter speed to capture stationary subjects in sharp focus,
while blurring the moving elements.
12. Macro The art of photographing very small and/or close-up objects.
13. Night Photography taken outdoors between dusk and dawn.
14. Photojournalism Capturing images in order to tell a news story.
15. Portrait Photographs of a person (or group of people) that captures the expression,
personality, and mood of the subject.
16. Sports Capturing important moments during sporting events.
17. Still Life The depiction of inanimate subject matter, most typically a small grouping of objects.
18. Travel Photographs that capture an area's landscape, people, cultures, customs and history.
19. Underwater Capturing pictures while under water, usually by scuba diving, swimming,
snorkeling, or from a submersible.
20. Wildlife Photography that focuses on animals in their natural habitat.

Assignment Requirements:

Title slide, featuring the name of the assignment, your name, the course code, and teachers name.
One slide for 10 type of photography, featuring the following information:
o A title listing the type of photography
o One good quality example of that type of photography
o The title & date of the photo and the name of the photographer (if the information is listed)
o The URL where you found the image
o One or two sentences explaining why the image you have selected is a good/effective
example of that type of photography.
o One or two sentences explaining what design elements and principles make this photo
effective

EXAMPLE:

Select a background colour/design for your slides, but make sure that it does not distract from the text
and images. Font size in this example is 16 pt.
