The National Cancer Institute provides information on the risk of breast cancer in American
women. According to this website, the percentage of the average American woman developing
breast cancer during her lifetime has stayed around the same percentage, fluctuating from 12.0%
to 12.7%. This website includes statistics on age and breast cancer and shows a significant
increase in breast cancer diagnoses as a person ages. Also, factors that possibly cause breast
cancer are included which is valuable information for me to contemplate whether or not these
factors have amplified which has resulted in an increase in breast cancer diagnoses.

The Susan G. Komen website offers statistics on breast cancer in the U.S. over time. It also
includes different races and the statistics on diagnoses between races. It also looks at data
regarding age and breast cancer, pregnant women, and lesbians, bisexual and transgender people
with breast cancer. All this data and statistics are good background information for me to further
understand breast cancer and the people that are affected by it. I will use the information to

analyze the diagnoses over the years with breast cancer in order to determine whether there has
actually been increase in breast cancer and some of the reasons behind that.

This article poses the idea that there is an increase in younger women getting breast cancer by
looking at the data from Cancer Research UK. Dr. Mercola analyzes the data from the UK
Cancer Research, which is one of my sources that I will analyze as well, in order to prove the
point that there has been an increase in breast cancer. It also discusses some of the possible
reasons behind the increase in rates of women. I will use this article and the other Cancer
Research UK source in order to compare U.S. statistics of breast cancer diagnoses to the ones of
the UK in order to form a global assertion regarding breast cancer rates overtime.

This journal provides data regarding all cancer types in 2000. It includes the estimated new
cancer cases of breast cancer in the US during 2000. I will use those numbers to compare to the
data from the 1900s and the current statistics in my paper. This is a reliable source because it is a
medical journal that provides a lot of information on all cancers, even though I will only be
analyzing breast cancer.

This Oxford Journal provides background information on my topic about the diagnosis, staging
and risk assessment, treatment plans, and therapy. This clinical journal recommends certain types
of therapy depending on the specific circumstances of the cancer. This source will be used in my
paper as general information about breast cancer so that I can use it to understand my topic more
and be able to accurately write about it in my research paper.

This journal provides data regarding all cancer types in 1999. It includes the estimated new
cancer cases of breast cancer in the US during 1999. I will use those numbers to compare to the
data from 2000 journal and the current statistics in my paper. This again is a reliable source
because it is a medical journal that provides a lot of information on all cancers, even though I
will only be analyzing breast cancer in my research paper.

This Los Angeles article discusses an increase in breast cancer among younger women in the
United States. The article claims that the rate of breast cancer diagnoses in women, ages 25 to
39, has almost doubled from 1976 to 2009. This article is perfect for proving that breast cancer
diagnoses have increased in America which is why breast cancer has become so prevalent in our
society. I will use this in my paper to have another perspective on breast cancer in society and
more factual information to prove my thesis.

This journal from the New England Journal of Medicine claims that there was a decrease in
breast cancer diagnoses in 2003 in the United States. It includes graphs and data to show the
decreases in that year which I will analyze in my paper. I can use it to prove that within a year
the rate may decrease, but overall breast cancer rates seem to increase throughout the years. This
source can also be used as a counter-argument in my research paper.

The Cancer Research UK provides information and statistics that support the claim that breast
cancer rates are in fact increasing. This article is fairly recent, it was posted in 2011, so it can be
used effectively to prove my thesis. It also includes background information on breast cancer like

the screening, lifestyle, age, and possible explanations of the causes of breast cancer. Even though
it is regarding the UK, it will still be a reliable source because I am looking beyond America in
order to analyze breast cancer rates. Since the UK and U.S. are closely related, I will see a lot of
parallels in data and I can then compare those statistics in my paper.

This website provides current statistics about breast cancer diagnoses throughout the United
States. Since it was last modified on September 20th of this past year, it is a reliable source to
obtain factual information on my research topic in order to use that information in my paper. In
my paper I will use these statistics to compare to breast cancer diagnoses statistics from previous
years in order to determine whether or not there has been an increase in breast cancer diagnosis
in the U.S.
