K. Doub Elementary School

To whom it may concern;
It is my pleasure to recommend Annie Anders for the Frostburg State University
Doctoral Program. Mrs. Anders has consistently demonstrated leadership
through her role first as a Magnet teacher and now as the Lead
Teacher/Intervention Teacher at Emma K Doub Elementary School. Several years
ago, I had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Anders in her role as Reading
Specialist in Frederick County Public Schools and was equally impressed with her
as a peer and colleague. She is a natural leader amongst her peers and
understands both the needs of students and teachers in the classroom and the
big picture of learning and leading.
Her work within just the past seven months has had incredible reach. She has
supported student achievement as a coordinator of intervention programs and
through this lens has organized intervention programs facilitated by staff, parents,
community volunteers, and a cadre of interns from South High School. In this role,
Mrs. Anders has supported growing future teachers in the South High program as
well as our new teachers, coaching and providing regular feedback to guide their
professional development. She facilitates team meetings with our grade level
teachers, guiding them towards strong instructional design and using data to
drive decision-making.
Mrs. Anders works to impact total school growth in her role as School
Improvement Team Facilitator and is the chair of our Literacy Committee. In this
role she is helping to coordinate our Raising Ready Readers and Literacy Night

community events, raising awareness about early literacy and the role parents
play in supporting literacy at home.
As literacy continues to be a significant area of focus for our school, Mrs. Anders
has creatively implemented a Book Rack in our front lobby, celebrating reading
with students and letting them buy books with our school currency. Each Friday
finds her out in the lobby helping students select books and inspiring a love of
reading.
As my Lead Teacher, Mrs. Anders is left in charge of the building in my absence
and serves as my partner in decision-making and administrative tasks. I trust her
wholeheartedly instructionally and in her administrative actions. She is an
incredibly dedicated and hard worker, a leader, and a visionary. I know that she
has a bright future ahead of her and admittance into your program would be a
tremendous next step in her career. I highly recommend her inclusion in your
doctoral program.

Sincerely,

Catherine Poling, Principal
