ActivityDescription:
1. Participantswillsitinchairsinacircle.
2. Eachparticipantwillhavetheirlefthand,palmfacingup,outstretchedin
themandthepersontotheirleft.
3. Fromthereeveryparticipantwillputtheirrighthandwithathumbsdown
ontheoutstretchedhandofthepersontotheirright.
4. Thefacilitatoroftheactivitywillbegintotellastoryandoncethe
facilitatorsaysthewordGOTCHA,allparticipantsmusttrytocatchthe
thumbthatisintheirlefthandwhilenotgettingtheirrightthumbcaught.
LeadershipConsiderations:
1. Thisactivitycouldbeadaptedtoagroupofpeoplewitharthritis.Thehand
movementcanhelpincreasebloodflowandmobilitytothesepatientswhohave
limitedhandmovement.Anadaptationthatcouldbemadewouldbethatifthe
lefthand,whichisoutstretchedslightlytouchestherightthumboncetheword
GOTCHAhasbeencalled,thepersonwiththecaughtthumbwouldbeout.
Normallythepersonwouldonlybeoutifhisorherthumbgetscompletelycaught
buttoadapttosomeonewitharthritisandlimitedmobilitywouldbetojustmake
contact.
2. Anotheradaptationthatcouldbemadewouldbetousethisactivityforthosewith
attentiondisorders.Becausetheactivityrequiresalotoflisteningtobeableto
hearwhenthewordGOTCHAhasbeencalled.Althoughtheactivityisstill
upbeatandveryactive,theparticipantsmuststilllistenandfocustobeableto
stayinthegamethroughouttheactivity.
