Reflection: Critically Appraised Topic (CAT), OCCT 643

For this assignment I conducted a Critically Appraised Topic with my classmate Jerold
Garret. We chose the topic of psychosocial interventions for siblings of pediatric cancer patients.
Initially, the topic was only to include group interventions. However we found that the research
on this topic was scarce so we had to expand our search to include research on both individual
and group interventions.
If we could do anything different for our presentation, we would focus more on our
methodology when explaining our research to fellow first year students, rather than
concentrating so much on the topic. Additionally, we would use a less busy background for our
poster. We would also title our methodology section differently, and we would cite our images.
We would ask more questions from our professor for clarification on how to follow the format
provided as well. This assignment was very useful in allowing us to conduct research and present
it to our fellow students. We also felt that additional and recent randomized controlled trials
(RCT) are needed on this topic. .
