Cleaning instructions for organophilic polymeric membranes

1. Cleaning procedure

Cleaning from aqueous environments requires special care. This is to keep elements (more or less) free from
microorganisms. In case you are processing food products, starch or other carbohydrate sources containing like
egg free juices, wine, (soy bean) milk etc. take extreme care to clean your element during and after
experiments.
A very straight forward method:
1. Rinse thoroughly after use ( from aqueous solutions reverse osmosis water can be used)
2. After rinsing with clean water rinse with 0.25 wt.% sodium metabisulphite. Rinse for at least 30
minutes and keep membrane wetted with this solution for storage
3. For prolonged storage (>2 weeks) step 2 should be repeated
