Parallelogram

If a quadrilateral has two pairs of parallel sides, then the quadrilateral is a

parallelogram.

Construct a line.
Construct a line parallel to the line in step 1.
Construct a line that goes through the two lines made in steps 1 and 2.
Construct a line parallel to the line constructed in step 3.
Label the four intersecting points created, and verify that the lines are
parallel to each
other.

If a quadrilateral has diagonals that bisect each other, then the quadrilateral is a
parallelogram.
1. Construct a line, and label two points on this line. Construct the midpoint of
the segment created.
2. Construct an acute angle next to this line.
3. Use this angle to rotate the line from step 1, and create another line, that is
congruent to the line from step 1. It should intersect the first line at its
midpoint.
4. Construct two points on the line from step 3, and make sure that their
midpoint is
the same midpoint
created
from step 1.
5. Measure
the lengths of the
line
segments, and
confirm
that theyre
bisected.

If a quadrilateral has four right angles, then the quadrilateral is a rectangle.

If a quadrilateral has congruent diagonals, then the quadrilateral is a rectangle.

Construct a line segment, and find the midpoint of it.

Construct an acute angle next to this line segment.
Use the midpoint and the angle to rotate this line.
Now, connect the points at the end of these segments, to create a
quadrilateral.
5. To verify that this is a rectangle, measure the lengths of the diagonals, and
make sure that they are congruent.

Rhombus
If a quadrilateral has diagonals
each other, then the

that are perpendicular and bisect

quadrilateral is a rhombus.

1. Construct a line, and

label two points on it. Find the
midpoint of this line
segment created.
2. Construct a perpendicular line that goes through this midpoint.
3. Label two points on the line from step 2 and make sure that they are both equidistant
from the midpoint created in step 1.
4. Connect the points and create a rhombus! Make sure to verify by measuring the
angle created by the diagonals, and the lengths of the bisected sections of the
diagonals.

If a

quadrilateral has four congruent sides, then the quadrilateral is a rhombus.

1. Construct a line segment. Make two angles on that line, so that the two
angles are supplementary.
2. Next to this segment, construct another line segment. Rotate this segment
using the smaller angle of the two created in step one. Continue doing this
with every segment you get, except alternate between using the bigger and
the smaller angle until you have a quadrilateral.
3. Measure the sides to verify the congruent sides and label the vertexes of the
quadrilateral.
