Preview
Family Life is simply a fancy term for sex ed. Over
the next couple of weeks, we will be gaining knowledge
about all aspects of family life. That includes
relationships, the reproductive system, childbirth,
contraceptives, STIs, and more.

Hook & Relevancy
Explain to students that this activity is to get them
thinking about their beliefs related to sexual issues.
Pressures and decisions regarding sex will be present
throughout life. Its important they consider their beliefs
before hand.
Proceed by working through the Take a Stand activity.

Presentation/Explicit Instruction
Now that students have had the opportunity to consider
their personal beliefs, begin going through the
PowerPoint slides on families.
(See attached slides 3-5.)
Structured Practice/Exploration
Divide students into groups of no more than four
students. Give each group two minutes to write down as
many slang terms for the male reproductive organ as
possible. Give them another two minutes to come up
with anatomically correct terms. Have each group share
their responses while you write them on the board.
Repeat this process for the female reproductive organs.

Explain to students that this was an opportunity for them
to get out their giggles and use terms that they are
familiar with. However, from now on they will be
expected to use the correct terminology.
Presentation/Explicit Instruction
Briefly discuss abstinence. Allow students to first record
their own definition.

Presentation/Explicit Instruction
Give an overview of the various types of sexual activity.
If there is still time, discuss which types you can get an
STI/pregnant from.
(See attached slide 8.)

Closure
Review
So far, we have gone over an introduction into family
life including what a family is and the various forms of
sexual activity including abstinence. We also,
importantly, learned how we will be acting and speaking
throughout this unit.
Preview
Tomorrow we will begin getting more in depth by
discussing relationships and how they can be both
healthy and unhealthy
Home/Family Involvement
Assign students the Parent Rules. This is due the
following Monday.
