Students evaluate
how language in
Australia has
changed over time,
specifically
identifying and
describing changes
and differences in
accent and slang.

Brief greeting from the teacher and explain what will be

covered in the lesson.
Students watch a clip on the dying Aussie accent.
Students discuss, in groups of three, answers to the
questions following the video clip. (for the questions,
see lesson plan 3, following the video clip).
Each group volunteers their answers in a group rotation
and the class evaluates the answers. This aids them in
working together and can also provide room for the
teacher to walk amongst the students.
ESL students and low achieving students can focus on
the first two activities and ensure that they are finished
by the end of the lesson.
The purpose of the question and evaluation is for
students to gain knowledge of the origins of accent and
slang, and the evolving nature of accent.
Students complete an individual kahoot quiz testing
their knowledge of Aussie slang.
Students complete answers to questions in lesson plan
3 after the quiz.
Students record their answers in their kidblog. Students
look at other students blogs and comment on one of
their answers.
