Empowerment
Empowerment means to make a person feel like they have control and
charge over their own life. When a person needs care, it can make them feel
vulnerable and like they dont have a choice. It can be hard for adults to give
up choice as they are so use to looking after themselves.
All Health and Social Care staff have a responsibility to empower their clients
and involve them as much as they can in their care, whether it be for a short
stay in hospital, a move to a care home or a visit from Social Services to your
home. It is a right that all clients have.
When a client feels empowered, it can help them feel better emotionally,
which can help make a stay in care better for them.

1. Use this explanation and p of the text book to make your own definition
of empowerment.
