I chose this article because the topic of halal food is interesting to me. In addition, the idea of
Germany waking up to halal food is highly appealing to me.

The article is about the fast growing halal food market segment in Germany, since the German
companies are gradually realizing that catering to faith-oriented consumption is a good way to
make money. But, there is a law in Germany that doesnt allow to slaughter animals that have
not been anesthetized, thats why supermarkets only offer a meagre range of halal food. Theres
a large market of halal certifiers who control the raw materials, production process, hygiene
standards and suppliers. The market of halal food will keep on growing in Germany and it wont
be just sausage or meat, all food can be halal.
5. What is the writers message or purpose in writing this article?
The writers message or purpose in writing this article is to inform or tell the reader that halal
food market is highly increasing in Germany.

I think since the topic is appealing to me, I really like the article, because from the article I could
know that the German industry is taking an interest in halal food market and trying to expand it
to every kind of foods.
