including their structure and functions
- A chance to view cells under a microscope in
real time

Strand/Topic from the Australian Curriculum

Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

List the steps of mitosis

Understand what the process does

Recognise that cells divide by mitosis

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:
-

Prepared a video using wideo.com

Prepared a Kahoot quiz
Make sure video and quiz pages are ready to go
and at the right volume
Ensured all kids had working and charged iPads
and headphones if necessary
Uploaded resources to the class website

Provision for students at educational risk:

-

Headphones for the child with hearing

difficulties
Visual and hearing risk students at the front
facing teacher
Extra resources for kids who need to be
challenged that look at mitosis in more detail
than expected in their Capzle

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

[OFFICIAL USE ONLY] Comments by classroom teacher, HOPP, supervisor:

Questions):
1:00 pm

1. Write the instructions on the board:

Your task today is to research cell division, there are
resources on the website for you to use and your textbook
will be useful too
Need to create some slides (photo or video) to finish your
Capzle by answering these questions
1. Define Mitosis
2. Explain what it does in the human body
3. Explain briefly how it works and the steps
4. List two organisms that undergo binary fission and define

answer, be sure to go through all of these and write the
answers into your notebook, these will become notes and
will make it easier to complete your Capzle

2. Hand out class iPads, allow 30 minutes for activity

3. Early finishers are to ensure Capzle is totally finished and
link is emailed to teacher.
4. Students who are ahead are to give a more detailed
account of the steps in mitosis

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
1. Survey questions on these web based lessons
2. Email teacher link to your Capzle if completed
3. Gather up iPads
