CoursePurpose:
Topreparethestudentstogotoadifferentcountryandcommunicate
theirwantsandneedstoothersandevangelize.

CourseObjective:
Thepurposeofthiscourseistoprovidestudentswiththeopportunitytolearnaforeignlanguage
oftheirchoice.TheIntensiveCurriculumforUnderstandingSpanishoptionisavailablethrough
RosettaStonesonlineclassroom,solearnerswillbeabletoaccessitfromhome,schoolor
anywheretheyhaveaninternetconnection.Withitscommunicativebasedapproachtolanguage
learning,thiscoursewillhelpstudentsnaturallylearninthesamemannertheylearnedtheirfirst
language.Theultimategoalofthisprogramistotopreparethestudentstogotoadifferent
countryandcommunicatetheirwantsandneedstoothersandevangelizethem.

Grading:
RosettaStone:
TheRosettaStoneportionofthecoursewillbegradedbasedonparticipation(at
least45minutesaday,5daysaweek),
scoresonactivities,
andcompletion
,andaccountsfor
50%oftheoverallgrade.
Allworkiscompletedindependentlyandprogressismonitoredbyan
advisorwhomeetswiththestudentsonaregularbasis.Theclassismasterybasedandtherefore

requiresatleasta85%scoreonallonlineactivitiesinordertoreceiveapassinggrade.Ifa
studentscoresbelowthatduringaninteractivelesson,theywillneedtoredoituntiltheyachieve
mastery.AnotherportionoftheRosettaStonegradeistheworksheets.Theworksheetsare
gradedonlyoncompletion.Failuretocompletetheseworksheetswillresultinadockedgrade.

Immersion:
25%ofthefinalgradewillbeanimmersionexperience.Forthestudentsin11th
gradethiswillinvolveamissiontriptotheJunglesoutsideofQuitoEcuador.Thestudentsin
12thgradeareexemptfromthemissiontrip,duetoseniorprojects,butwillberequiredtodoa
smallimmersionexperienceinthelocalcommunity.

ICUs:
Thelast25%oftheoverallgradeistheICUs(IntensiveCurriculumforUnderstanding
Spanish)Class.TheseclasseswillmeeteveryTuesdayandThursdaysduringlunch.ICUclasses
willcoverSurvivalSpanish,EvangelicalSpanish,MedicalSpanish,andServiceSpanish.Itis
thehopethateachofthesedifferentsubjectswillpreparethestudentstogooutintothe
communityandeffectivelycommunicatewithnativespeakers.

Map:
Finally,thestudentwillpreparea15minutepresentationforthewholeGracePrep
communityinPreziformfeaturingacountrywheretheyspeakthetargetedlanguage.Itwill
consistofaninteractivemapandincludepointsofinterestregardingtheircountrysuchas
history,culture,holidays,languages,politicalstatus,spiritualcondition,population,trade,
climate,educationalsystem,andfood.Theywillpresenttheirfindingsandprepareandservean
ethniclunchfortheschoolduringadesignatedlunchperiod.Financialcompensationwillbe
providedforgroceryexpenses.

CostandMaterials:
ThecostoftheprogramisFREEtoallstudentswhoscoreaBorabove.Thiscoursenecessitates
ahighlevelofselfmotivationandGracePrepiswillingtorewardthehighachievers.Anyone
whoscoresaCorbeloworfailstocomplywithallrequirementswillreceiveazerofortheir
foreignlanguagecreditandanincurredexpenseof$180.00.

StudentsarealsorequiredtotobringtheirSelfDevelopedQuickReferencefolderwiththem
toclass.Thisfolderwillcontaintheirworkfromclassthattheywillbeabletoreferenceeasily
duringtheirimmersionexperience.

StudentsarealsorequiredtogettheWordreferenceapp.Wordreferenceisanamazingappthat
willallowstudentstoquicklylookupwordsandtheirconjugations.Theuseofgoogletranslate
isnotallowedbecauseitisnotalwaysaccurate,anddoesnotallowstudentstotrulymasterthe
language.Wordreferenceisthebestsolution.
