2. Has your personal definition of leadership changed since attending the ELC?
Yes
No
If yes, how?

Leadership doesnt come from outside, it comes from within.

There are many different types of leaders, and they can all complement each other.
Leadership is conscientious, dynamic it fosters motivation and makes an impact.
Its not about having a title; its about pushing forward.
Im very soft spoken (or at least I feel I am) so I learned how I can still be a leader.
There is a conscious decision to lead.
You can be a role model to people you dont know (ex: lollipop moments)
Leadership isnt about being the superhero and having all the answers. Now I know
that it is ok to fail but I need to get back on my feet because that is where people
need me.
Leadership can be positional, informal/unofficial, or an every-day lollipop moment.
Leadership can also be behind the scenes.
Leadership requires values and values are what drive actions.
Leadership beyond the hierarchy; I see it in much less of a structural perspective
now; beyond positional leadership.

3. Please rate the effectiveness of the following, with your personal experience
at the ELC in mind. Useful being defined as either significant or impactful to
you personally and/or your student organization(s).

Could have been a little more dynamic. For
example, stating a problem, breaking into
groups and coming up with solutions in a five
minute period [it] gives the opportunity to
demonstrate leadership styles.
Not enough time in the micro-lab.

scenario.
I didnt/couldnt relate to it it could have
been more useful to have a mad-lib case
study where we can work with a more
personal/relatable experience.
The Conflict & Negotiation and Navigating Difficult
Conversations discussions.
The Visioning and Goal Setting discussion. One
participant did not respond to this question.
May have been too abstract for some
participants maybe add examples for more
structure.

have made the activity more useful to you? (Please state which activity you
are referencing.)
Could have been beneficial to see how my leadership skills affect my perspective.
Not enough time given to discuss freely in an unstructured environment with other
participants.

6. If you could change one or two things about the ELC, what would they be?
More free time; better and more interactive discussions; more storytelling in small
groups.
More presentations, fewer discussions.
Longer timeframe two days instead of one, for more energetic discussions.
More forum for debate.
Add an outdoor activity to get up and move around; more moving activities and less
sitting.

EMERGING LEADERS CONFERENCE 2014:

Evaluation
More personal sharing and personal experiences.
Have more second-years attend, so they can lend their perspectives.
Less reflections and discussions, but more hands on practicing/executing in miniscale activities what we were discussing.

7. Are there additional topics or situations you would have liked to discuss and/or
experience at the ELC?
More real life discussions.
Suggested topics:
o How to be the change you want to see.
o Morality of leading
o If a leader should be an expert in the area he/she is leading.
o How to make the hard decisions.
o What life is about, what do people live for, what it feels like to be a human
being.
o Leadership through the eyes of student, club leaders, family member, friend,
or professional.
o Discuss current leaders and what they do/dont do well.
I would have liked to see what prior leadership experience people had.
The importance/usefulness of followers as opposed to leaders.
More storytelling structuring. Goal structuring (stretch and manageable goals and
forming and thinking through them)
8. Any additional thoughts and/or comments? Or suggestions for ways to target
more freshmen and sophomores?
Set up a booth in the lobby to advertise.
Talk to student groups directly.
Loved the first icebreakers where we told the origin of our name. Im gonna use that
in my student groups.
It would be interesting to see at the end of the year how people have evolved as
leaders get participants back together at the end of the year.
I think quotes fro previous attendees attached to info e=mail would be really
encouraging for new freshman and sophomore to join!
I thought the size was perfect. Small enough for us to get to know everybody.
Add more detail to the website talk about Endicott (show it off) and post photos
from previous activities.
Advertise with flyers/posters around the campus.
