O u r e v e n t i s f o r n o n - p r o fi t a n d w i l l t a k e p l a c e o n
t h e S h e p h e r d U n i v e r s i t y f o o t b a l l fi e l d . T h e p u r p o s e
of our event is to create a unique and educational
physical activity for families of all kinds to enjoy,
while learning how to become active motivators in
each others quest to living a healthier lifestyle.
T h e g o a l s o f o u r e v e n t a r e a s f o l l o w s : To e n c o u r a g e
f a m i l i e s t o l i v e h e a l t h i e r l i f e s t y l e s ; To m o t i v a t e
parents to be involved in their childs physical
activity level. Objectives for our event are as
follows: All families will complete the relay; All
families will learn healthy snacks that may be
consumed between meals; and All families will learn
exercises that they can complete during their
leisure time.
Pa rticipants wi ll need to c reate a team of f our
family members with at least one adult to register
f o r t h e e v e n t . Fa m i l y m e m b e r s m a y i n c l u d e s p o u s e ,
partner, mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle,
grandmother, grandfather, cousin, or friend. At the
beginning of the event everyone teams will be
divided into two even groups. One group will go to
one end zone and receive a 10 min lesson on
n u t r i t i o n w i t h D r. P e r r y , w h i l e t h e o t h e r g r o u p i s a t
the opposite end zone, receiving a lesson on
exercising with Coach Jeremy Overfelt. Once the
g r o u p s h a v e fi n i s h e d , t h e y w i l l j o g a n d s w i t c h e n d
z o n e s . O n c e t h i s p o r t i o n h a s fi n i s h e d , a l l g r o u p s
will come together and complete a dance warm up
w i t h D r . P e r r y . N e x t i s t h e r e l a y. F o u r f a m i l i e s a t a
time, one family member will begin at the end zone
o f t h e f o o t b a l l fi e l d , w i t h o t h e r m e m b e r s s t a n d i n g
o n t h e 3 0 , 6 0 , a n d 9 0 y a r d - l i n e , g o i n g u p fi e l d .
Each member is required to complete their assigned
exercise once the teammate before them has
c o m p l e t e d t h e i r s a n d t a g s t h e m . T h e fi r s t e x e r c i s e
is 20 jumping jacks, then the team member must do
butt kicks to the 30 yard line and tag their team

spacious because of the athletic relays involved.
With that said, on campus venue opportunities
include:

With these potential venues listed, we chose Ram
Stadium as the best option for this program if it
w e r e t o b e r u n f o r t h e e n t i r e c o m m u n i t y. T h i s v e n u e
will help keep the excitement level up during the
event and will also allow for a much larger crowd to
comfortably enjoy the event.
For our back up plan, the Butcher Center with its
indoor venue is the best choice. This will help
prevent any possible weather problems will still
allowing enough space for the activities.
Promotion Plan
I n o r d e r t o p r o m o t e o u r e v e n t Fi t Fa m i l y R e l a y ,
w e w i l l u s e fl y e r s , F a c e b o o k , a n d m a s s e m a i l . T h e
fl y e r s w i l l b e p o s t e d a r o u n d c a m p u s o n b u l l e t i n
boards in the student center and in all campus
buildings. Flyers will also be posted on sandwich
boards and on parking meters around the town of
S h e p h e r d s t o w n . I n o r d e r t o p o s t fl y e r s a r o u n d
Shepherd Universitys campus, they will need to be
a p p r o v e d b y S t u d e n t A ff a i r s . T h i s w i l l b e a c o s t
e ff e c t i v e w a y t o p r o m o t e o u r b u s i n e s s a n d i n v o l v e
t h e p e o p l e o f S h e p h e rd s t o w n . We a ls o p l a n t o v i s i t
elementary, middle, and high schools to talk to
Physical Education classes about our event to get
the students and faculty excited about
p a r t i c i p a t i n g . W e t y p i c a l l y c h o s e fl y e r s t o b e o n e o f
our promotional tools because many school-aged
kids like to see things visually whether it be in
p e r s o n o r o n t h e i n t e r n e t . I n t h i s c a s e , o u r fl y e r
can also be seen on our website.
We a l s o c h o s e Fa c e b o o k t o u s e a s o n e o f o u r
p r o m o t i o n a l t o o l s . Fa c e b o o k i s u s e d b y m i l l i o n s o f
people around the world. Among those millions of
people are college students and adults, whether it
be for leisure or professional purposes. A feature
o n Fa c e b o o k a l l o w s a c c o u n t u s e r s t o p u b l i s h f a m i l y
m e m b e r s w h o a l s o h a v e a Fa c e b o o k o n t h e i r p a g e .
Using this feature will be a great way to contact
family members in order to inform them about the
e v e n t i f t h e i r r e l a t i v e h a d n o t d o n e s o a l r e a d y.
Lastly, we also chose to use mass email as a
promotional tool. Email is widely used around the
United States for business, communication between
f r i e n d s a n d / o r f a m i l y , e t c . We w i l l b e a b l e t o s e n d a
message to the entire Shepherd University email
D i r e c t o r y , r e g a r d i n g o u r e v e n t , w i t h o u r fl y e r
a t ta c h e d . We w i l l b e g i n p ro m o t i n g o u r e v e n t 2
months in advance, starting April 14, 2014.

We c o u l d g e t t h e c o n e s f ro m a p e rs o n i n t h e g ro u p
that has them, the tables from the classroom,
speakers from someone in the group, and water
could be bought at the grocery store. If we were to
put this on for the community, we would need about
25-30 cones, we could use the speaker system at
t h e f o o t b a l l fi e l d , a n d t h e r e s t w o u l d d e p e n d o n h o w
m a n y f a m i l i e s / t e a m s s i g n u p f o r t h e p ro g r a m . We
would have enough water for at least 75 people.
