S.M.K.Pengkalan Lebai Man had implemented two English programs on March 2011.

These
programs were the English Parliamentary Debate and English story telling competition.These two
programs were launched by the school principal in a grand manner during the school official assembly.
The aim and objectives of these programs is to emphasize the importance of English language
to the students because the usage of English language among the school students nowadays is not
broad enough.The English Parliamentary Debate was aimed towards the higher secondary students.The
objective of this program is to build up the ability of spontaneous speaking skill among students and this
followed by the English Story Telling Competition which was carried out for the lower secondary students
to improve their English proficiency.These two programs gave a very big impact to the students in terms
of their language proficiency.
The English Parliamentary debate was held for one day ,that was on the 13 th of March 2011
whereas the English Story Telling Competition was held for 5 days ,that was from the 15 th of March until
to the 19th of March 2011.Students support for these programs were remarkable.The debate program
was meant for the Form 4 and Form 5 students because they will be facing the challenging world very
soon so they need to be skillful enough in terms of speaking and the debate program had built up the skill
in them.On the other hand,the story telling competition which was meant for the Form 1,2 and 3
students ended up being very useful to them.They were able to get prepare well for their upcoming
English tests.
The English Parliamentary Debate which was held on the 13 th of March was a big event of the
day.More than 4 schools took part in the English Parliamentary Debate.This event begun at 8.a.m. and it
all begin with introduction of the schools and the participants.The debate took 3 hours and 50 minutes to
finish and the closing ceremony was fulfilled by the speech from the school principal.The English Story
Telling Competition was a longer event which was held for 5 days.It was a back to back
competition.Students participated with great enthusiasm.It was a remarkable event ever took place.

These two programs got its place in the school history and it gave a very big impact towards the
students language proficiency.Students have improved their speaking skill and they have broad usage of
English language now.These types of language programs should be carried out in school in future.
