Lesson Topic: The New Immigrants
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES/ STUDENT OUTCOMES
Purpose:
The purpose of this lesson is to inform the students of the push and
pull factors that lead immigrants to decide to come to the US. In this
lesson we will also be comparing the differences between old and
new immigrants, and examining some of the difficulties they faced
coming to and arriving in the United States. This lesson will serve to
examine the many ways in which immigrants affected the American
culture and economy.
Background:
During the Industrialization of America; immigrants served to fill the
need for a growing work force. After arriving in America; immigrants
integrated into American culture adding to and taking from the
customs, and helping to transform American society into this
melting pot we know today.
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES/ STUDENT OUTCOMES:
1. The students will compare the differences between the new and
old immigrants.
2. The students will identify the push and pull factors for why
immigrants decide to come to the United States.
3. Students will describe what happened to Immigrants when they
arrived?
