Introduction
In this paper, I will be talking about the importance of comprehensive classroom technology.
Technology has become a great resource for teachers in the classrooms today. Teachers are able
to teach the dangers of technology to their students. It has helped students advance academically
in math and reading skills. Students are learning how to do research for essays. There are also
educational games that the students will be able to play and learn at the same time. Teachers are
able to teach mini lessons to the class using technology, which gives the students visuals of what
they are learning. It has also been a great way for communication between teachers and parents.
This way parents are able to know what their child is doing in school, and they will be able to
respond on it. This paper will be talking about some of the advantages and disadvantages to
using technology in the schools.
Section 1: Mission and Vision Statement
My mission statement is to graduate in 2017 with a dual degree in Elementary/Special
Education. I want to be a elementary school teacher with focuses on the children with special
needs. If not, then I plan to just be a special education teacher and teach 3rd thru 5th grade. My
goal is to make every student feel that they are important and can learn. I plan to use technology
in my classroom to communicate with students and parents on a regular basis. I will
communicate with my parents through emails daily to keep them informed on what is going on
in the classroom. My vision statement is to have every student leave my classroom with
confidence in knowing that they have achieved their goals in every content subject. I want the
students to know that they are loved and respected as an individual. They will leave my
classroom with pride and readiness for the years to come.
Section 2: Communications Plan
I am undecided on rather I want to do regular education or special education, but in my first
year of teaching, I plan on using technology as a form of communication in the educational
community. Technology can help change the lives of students with the different techniques that
will learn. Technology can be used in the classroom setting in many different ways. The students
can go on class website to work on assignments or research for a paper. I can send out emails to
the parents about events or things that are going on in the classroom. I can create a student
website, where the parents will be able to go and see what assignments are due for that day or
week, and they will be able to reply or post questions that they may have. I will also be using my
cell phone as a type of communication to the parents. I will be sending out daily text messages,
letting the parents know how our day went in the classroom and to send out reminders if needed.

The parents will also be able to contact me with any questions that they may have about things
going on in the classroom. In my first year, I also plan to set up a e-pals page, where the students
will get to communicate with someone from another state or country. This will be a project that I
would love to start at the beginning of the year and carry it through until the end of the year. The
students will be able to talk to as well as see the person on the computer to see how a student
from another location learn. All students should know about internet security and safety. I will be
teaching the students a lesson on internet safety. Before the students are allowed to operate on a
computer, they will have to sign off that they understand all rules of the computer. I will be
teaching them about cyber bullying and different pop ups that will come up on a computer. The
students will be allowed to go on different websites, to see if they trusted to do different
activities on the computer. I will send out an email to all the parents explaining to them about all
the different dangers of cyber bullying and pop ups to be aware of when their child is using the
computer at home. Technology, the Internet, the World Wide Web, search engines, hand-held
electronic devices, and social media all put us in touch with people, places, information, and
ideas -- instantly, and all the time. Technology has opened access to the world and provided a
world of resources for our teachers and students.(D.Gist,2013)
Section 3: Integrating Instructional Technology
There are pros and cons of using technology to facilitate learning. Technology has become a
very important part of learning in the classrooms. More and more schools are implementing
technology in school. Students are being required to have at least thirty minutes of educational
computer time for the students each day. Here are a few pros and cons about using technology in
the schools and classrooms. Some of the pros are less discipline problems, increased
instructional classroom time, higher graduation rate and better prepared students. Students will
have more time working on technology, which keep them out of trouble. They will be able to
learn and be better prepared in school. Some of cons are distractions in the classroom, safety, and
less interaction with the teacher. Students will be more involved in playing game than doing their
work, there is cyber bullying, and the student will not be getting enough one on one time with the
teacher. A wired classroom would be one where you are plugged into a jack to use the internet. A
wireless classroom would be one where you had a router to pick up the internet. The pros of
having internet in the classroom will help with a lot of research and class assignments. The cons
would be if the power went out, you wouldnt have any type of internet service in the classroom.
I prefer wireless over wired, because wired is becoming obsolete and people are not using them
anymore. These two access methods will impact my teaching and student learning by helping to
alliterate on some of the lessons being taught in the classroom. A student will understand a lesson
more, if they can see a visual of what is being taught. Students are able to go online and type in
certain topics and see different pictures of what they are learning about. This will help them
advance more in the classroom. There are many advantages to implementing technology in the
classroom for elementary students and throughout all education levels. As the world becomes
increasingly technologically advanced, it is more and more important that children are not
intimidated by it. Not only does technology help teachers plan lessons, but it can also be very
beneficial in helping students of all ages gain imperative knowledge.(University Alliance,2015)
Section 4: Differentiating Instruction through Technology

Differentiated instruction is a way of teaching which looks at each individual student in the
classroom, and tries to fit instruction for each individual students need. That means changing the
way that teaching in a classroom is done and adding different things for different learning styles
and the child personalities. Some of the pros of using technology to differentiate instructions,
would be teach the learning style that is easier for the child to learn. Work with the individual
child needs. Teach different ways to be creative. Each child should be taught that way that is
easier for them to learn. Be flexible, to meet the needs of each child. Some of the cons of using
technology to differentiate instructions, would be teachers will have to do more work if they had
to work with each child learning style. Less work will be done in the classroom if the teacher has
different plans for each student. If a child learns at a slower pace, it could hold the entire class
back from moving forward. Teachers need to be a schedule for the class to function correctly. I
do not feel a teacher should only use technology to differentiated instruction, some students may
not pick up as quickly using technology or may have never used any type of technology before.
This can deter them from learning like the rest of the students, which can eventually affect their
grade. If teachers are going to use technology in the classroom, they should do a lesson in the
classroom of how to properly use a computer for the students that struggle with it. Some students
may need hands on learning to pick up on certain subjects. The impact on student achievement
when using differentiate instruction, is that it shows readiness. It shows their performance and
how it affects school wide achievement in what they have learned. The importance of studentcentered technology in the classroom, is that students are involved in their learning process and
can determine how they can reach their desired learning on their own. It also helps build up their
knowledge and helps them to think more. It helps them to be more of a visual learner. One of the
major benefits of using technology in the classroom is the ability to differentiate instruction to
meet the needs of every student. Just as every student grows and develops at different rates, they
learn in different ways and at different speeds. Technology makes it possible to pace lessons
appropriately for each students learning level and can be used to promote learning in the
multiple intelligences.(C.A.Tomlinson)
Section 5:Technology to Support Assessment

Formative assessment monitors a students learning and provides ongoing feedback that the
teacher can use to help improve the students learning. It also help identify the students strengths
and weakness. Formative assessments usually are research papers for feedback. Summative
assessment evaluates a students learning by comparing it to standards and benchmark.
Summative assessments are usually used with final exams. Technology can help in both of these
assessment, by helping calculate scores, organize data, and communicate information to all that
is involved. A teacher should use more than technology to assess a students learning. There are
pros and cons to using technology to assess student learning. Some pros are students take their
work more seriously. It shows the students strengths and weaknesses. It is a time saver. The pros
of this is that there can technology problems if the computer is acting up. Technology skills if the
student does not know how to use a computer. It can also be impersonal to the student having a
computer give them results of a test. For some students, they can be more of a hands on person
or a visual learner and will not do as well with technology. Technology has forever changed not
only what we need to learn, but the way we learn. The ISTE Standards set the bar for excellence

and best practices in learning, teaching and leading with technology in education. The benefits of
using the ISTE Standards include:

Improving higher-order thinking skills, such as problem solving, critical thinking and
creativity

Preparing students for their future in a competitive global job market

Designing student-centered, project-based and online learning environments

Guiding systemic change in our schools to create digital places of learning

Inspiring digital age professional models for working, collaborating and decision
making(ISTE,2015) 2015 International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE),

Reflection Conclusion

In conclusion, teachers are using technology in the classrooms for many different reason now.
Integrating technology into the schools is a great way to teach students about computers.
Technology is a great way for teachers to communicate with parents through emails, texts, or
phone calls. The children are able to access homework assignment via the internet. Technology is
a great way to teach children the correct way to use computers and teach about all the dangers
there are on them and also send a note home to parents explaining to them what to do and expect
when their child is using a computer at home. Using computers can help children learn career
skills that will be needed later on in life. Most jobs that you find now, require some type of
computer skill. Teachers are able to give assessments on computers that can let them know how
well a child is doing in class, or if they are struggling with certain subjects in class. This way
they will know what to work on with each individual child. There are different websites that can
be created by the teacher with blog pages so that the parent and student can view them. These
websites offer information on different activities that the students can go on for practice. It gives
the parents information about what is going on in the school and the community. They will also
be able to communicate back to the teacher with any questions that they may have. Technology is
great to have at all schools. According to a recent study by CompTIAwhich surveyed 500 K12 and college instructors across the country. The report, IT Opportunities in the Education
Market, revealed that 78 percent of K-12 teachers and administrators believe technology has
positively impacted the classroom and the productivity of students. Roughly 65 percent of
educators surveyed also believe that students are more productive today than they were three
years ago due to the increased reliance on technology in the classroom.(R.Lytle,2011).

Reflection Essay
I have learned a lot in this class the past seven weeks. Although it was a little difficult for me in the
beginning trying to get the hang of all the different types of technology, and getting the web pages and
blogs completed. I had got a little frustrated thinking that I could not do it and was afraid that I would fail
the class. I think that I finally got the hang of it by the end. I will take what I have learned and use it once
I have my own classroom. This will be information that I share with my co-workers, to see if they have
heard of or used any of these websites. These websites will be implemented into my class at the very
beginning of my career as a teacher. My favorite website was the Weebly website. That is definitely one
that I will be purchasing to use year round. I enjoyed taking this class and getting the opportunity to learn
about some of the technology that I never knew existed. I can take some of the things I have learned in
this class and apply them towards some of my classes in the future. It is one that I will get the class to
help me work on in the classroom. This has definitely been a great educational experience for me. Thank
you Mr. Sean Diana, for being patient with me and working with me to get through this class. Without
your you tube tutorials that I had to keep going back to, I would be lost.
