TheMath31programofstudiesissetupdifferentlyfromtheK12
programs:

Eachstrandisseparatedintofourdifferentgenerallearningoutcomeswiththeirownspecific
learningoutcomes:GeneralLearningExpectations,ConceptualUnderstanding,Procedural
Knowledge,andProblemSolvingContext.
Math31hasanelectivecomponent.Thismeansthattheteachingoftheseunitsisunderthe
discretionoftheteacher.Theseunitsarebasicfoundationsofhighermaththatinvolvesareasof
science,engineering,andbusiness.
Rationale
Focushasshiftedfrommemorizationandalgorithmstowardamorebroadviewof
mathematicsasitsownlanguageoftermsandnotationsthatstudentsusetodescribe,reason,interpret,
andexplore.
