1.GENERAL SHOW RULES
1. All persons entering horse areas or competing must be a current financial member
or day member of the SWA&ABPC Inc. for insurance purposes. No exceptions to the
rule.
2. Show to be conducted under AAA, HSAA, AQHA, & club rules and appropriate
Breeds Associations where applicable & the judges decision is final. All events are
to carry a minimum of AQHA A & AAA A Approval unless otherwise stated. Whilst
the SWA&ABPC Inc. committee are happy to help people with rule information
PRIOR to events, ultimately its the competitors responsibility to ensure they are
aware of which rules under which the event is being judged.
3. All dogs must be on a lead at all times.
4. All competitors to compete at their own risk. No responsibility taken for
competitors or spectators.
5. Approved safety helmets are Mandatory for all youths riding on the grounds
except when entering a western class. Enclosed shoes must be worn at all times in
& around arenas. Mandatory for all Lead line riders.
6. Lead Line & Assisted Showmanship: non point earning classes. Handler to be
over 18yrs of age and handler/rider/horse attire should match wether western or
English. Children will be required to walk & jog both directions and back up at the
judges discretion. Competitors in Lead Line & Assisted Showmanship cannot
compete in any other ridden/performance classes on the day. Helmets see rule 5.
7. The committee reserves the right to cancel, alter program or combine classes as
the committee see fit on the day without prior notice.
8. Registration, Membership & A/O papers must be available upon request, including
all other registered breeds that attend.
9. 2 Year olds: Led only Prior to January, after 1st January ridden. Depending on
Judges Ticket- AQHA rules max of 5 ridden events per Show-HSAA 5 ridden events
per day for any two year old.
10. All age/open classes are the horses age as at the 1st August.
11. Junior horses under 6 yrs in western classes can be ridden in a Snaffle
bit/hackamore 2 handed or a bridle 1 handed. Competitors in Improver classes may
ride two handed in a bridle.
12. Senior horses 6 yrs & over in western classes are to be ridden 1 handed in a
bridle. Competitors in Improver classes may ride two handed in a bridle.
13. Youth 18 years & under as of 1st August of the preceding year. No youths to
handle stallions/colts.
Youth Walk Jog competitors cannot compete in any other events on the day.
*All youth competing or taking part in an AQHA Approved event, must have
permission from their parent/guardian to be at that event as a contestant or
participant and incase of a contest, the parent/guardian must also sign the entry
form. All youth competing or taking part in an AQHA approved event, must be in the
care of a responsible adult who is in attendance for the duration of that event, whilst
the youth is in attendance at that event. SWA&ABPC inc. also requires the
parent/guardian to sign the youths waiver and adhere to all parts of rule 13. NO
EXCEPTIONS.
14. Improver Rules:
a. Improver is the rider not the horse.
b. these are ltd classes only and are closed to those in their honest opinion are
confidence lacking competitors in said event. Those whom have placed 1st three or
more times in open company with three or more in that specific class in the last four
years will not be accepted as an Improver, this includes state and national events.
The committee reserves the right to excluded anyone who is in their opinion not an
improver handler/rider in any section of the program should they see fit.
c. Once Gained 15 points in eg Improver Showmanship Competitor can no longer
compete in said section. (Points gained in Newcomer sections in the last four years
will be carried over to their improver points balance)
d. Tack and attire does not have to meet the specific rule for the event but must be
of the following- English: Stock or English saddle, jodhpurs, boots, long sleeve
shirt, safety helmet. Any Standard English bit in a bridle as per AQHA & HSAA
Rulebook. (Improver Jackets optional) Western: Stock or western saddle, jeans,
long sleeve shirt, felt hat or safety helmet, boots, tie, belt. (chaps optional) To be
ridden one or two handed in acceptable bit as per AQHA & HSAA Rulebook.
15. Hunter in hand: a. Handler: Recommended attire would be long or short
sleeved collared plain shirt in conservative colours. Vest, tie and gloves optional.
Trousers should be loose enough to run in, jeans are forbidden. Running shoes or
elastic sided paddock boots required.
b. Horse: Plain leather English Bridle is mandatory on all horses 2yrs old (August 1st)
and over. Bridles must have egg-butt snaffle, D-ring snaffle, O-ring snaffle or full
cheek snaffle bit with keepers. Horses one year and under, plain leather halters are
mandatory, chain is optional and may only be used under the chin. Use of crop or
hacking cane optional. Please note that these rules change if event is not AQHA
approved, please refer to HSAA for alternate performance rules.
16. Other Breed: section is for registered horses that are not already catered for in
the breed section of the program and must carry a current breed or colour
registration as a minimum.
17. Unregistered Horses are required to supply a dental proof of age including
visual identification from a licensed dentist, cannot compete in any closed breed
section or any other sections where indicated & cannot compete in any point earning
class at a A or AA QH approved Show.

18. No abuse or mistreatment of any horse will be tolerated on the showground.


Competitors/participants at any event run by SWA&ABPC Inc. have a responsibility
to ensure the welfare of their horses and at all times to treat their horses humanely
and with dignity, respect and compassion. Competitors/participants are to conduct
themselves in a professional manner and act with integrity in all dealings with the
Affiliate and other competitors. To uphold the rules and regulations of the
SWA&ABPC Inc. and AAA & AQHA & HSAA at all times. Competitors/participants
are to demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times, showing respect for your fellow
competitors and officials, following the rules and to treat people the way you yourself
wish to be treated *Any unsportsmanlike/offensive conduct by an owner and/or
exhibitor shall jeopardize their right to further exhibit in the show. At any time, the
Judge or SWA&ABPC Inc. Committee may issue a first warning to any exhibitor
and/or owner for unsportsmanlike/offensive conduct, Failure to comply with the
warning, the judge or committee will disqualify the exhibitor from further classes for
the remainder of the show. In which a second warning will be given and they will be
asked to leave the grounds, Failure to comply with the second warning, the judge or
committee will call the police. Any further issue will result in a third warning of a
possible temporary ban, Failure to comply to the third warning, the committee will
vote on the duration of the ban at the next SWA&ABPC Inc. meeting, which the
person in question will receive notification of the committees decision via a formal
letter.
19. Refunds of total entries minus 50% if notified within 7 days prior to the show
date. No exceptions.
20. No alcohol is allowed in, or can be consumed in the marshalling areas, working
arenas or show pen/contest areas.
21. Marshalling areas: no horses are to be worked in marshalling areas, this area is
to be kept clear for competitors coming and going from the show arena. Designated
warm up areas to be used only.
22. Drugs: Random drug swabbing will be conducted at all shows, zero tolerance as
per the AAA & AQHA rules.
23. Complaints are to be in writing with a $25.00 handling fee for day of show, all
other complaints to be forwarded in writing to the club Secretary via email
swaabpc@gmail.com or post only, ALL other forms of media or private messaging
will not be acknowledged.
24. At all AAA & AQHA approved shows, on each day of the show, 1hr prior to start
of show & 1hr after the cessation of the show, there will be no training equipment
allowed in the immediate marshalling area & the performance arena & dress
regulations of Cap/Hat, long western style pants, safe enclosed footwear & shirt with
sleeves must be worn.
25. Exhibitors shall NOT approach the judge for any reason prior to the completion
of the judging, unless the exhibitor has finished exhibiting & the request must be
made through the ring steward. No exhibitor will request information from the judge,
or the decisions made by that judge, concerning any exhibit at a show, on the day of
the show or within the immediate 7 days following the show. Failure to follow rule 25
will result in disciplinary action by core committee and an official letter will be sent to
member outlining the grievance and actions taken.
26. Show Day High Point will be calculated 4,3,2,1 system. If 4 or more are in the
class 4 points for 1st; 3 points for 2nd; 2 points for 3rd; 1 point for 4th. If 3 in the class 3
points for 1st; 2 points for 2nd; 1 point for 3rd. If 2 in the class 2 points for 1st; 1 point
for 2nd. If 1 in the class -1 point for 1st. Tie breakers as per AQHA rule book. A
Minimum of four classes in any one section to qualify for that award excluding
Yearling & 2 Yr Old Hp sections which a minimum of three classes are required.
27. End Of Year High Point To be eligible for the SWA&ABPC Inc. annual High
Point the entrant must be a full member of the SWA&ABPC Inc., have competed at a
minimum of 50% of shows consisting of club & sponsored shows during that point
scoring year and must have competed in said sections at each show and obtain a
minimum of 5 points at the end of the club year to qualify for said section award.
28. Monies Owing- All memberships, entries and clinic fees to be paid prior to all
events in accordance to their individual pre entry or booking deadlines. Any financial
SWA&ABPC Inc. member or day member carrying a debt owing to the club shall
forfeit the right to attend any event until debt is paid. If debt remains owing by close
of the 31st of July of the current year, any full financial member or family membership
shall forfeit all points gained towards any and all End of Year High Point Awards and
will further result in future membership applications and day memberships being
refused.
29. Committee- all Core Committee positions may only be held by AAA financial
members and must at all times have proven to have the AAA and the SWA&ABPC
Inc. best interests at heart. They must also have been a full financial member of the
SWA&ABPC Inc. for the previous two years and never have brought the
SWA&ABPC Inc. or the AAA into disrepute.

I understand & acknowledge that all aspects of handling, working with and being in the vicinity of the riding
horses is a dangerous activity and that horses can act in sudden and unpredictable (changeable ) way at
any time.
I understand & acknowledge that serious injury or death may result from any activity involving horses.
I agree that I compete in and /or attend any show, clinic or other organized event conducted by authorized
by South Western Appaloosa & All Breeds Performance Club Inc. (SWA&ABPC Inc.) at my own risk and
that I save harmless The SWA&ABPC Inc. and/or any management /committee appointed or authorized by
the SWA&ABPC Inc. and shall not pursue The SWA&ABPC Inc. and/or any management /committee
appointed or authorized by The SWA&ABPC Inc. and hold them liable for any personal injury, death, loss
or damage to me or my children, employed, strappers or assistants, or any person attending the event on
my behalf or at my bequest for any loss or damage occasioned to any of my possessions or horses
whether such liability arises out of any express or implied term of law whether at common law or by statute,
or through the negligence of any member of The SWA&ABPC Inc. and/or any management committee
appointed or authorized by The SWA&ABPC Inc. arising in any manner whatsoever and I fully indemnify
and save harmless The SWA&ABPC Inc. and /or any Management /committee appointed or authorized but
The SWA&ABPC Inc. against any such claim howsoever and wheresoever such may arise.
My signing this indemnity and waiver acknowledges my reading of the document and my acceptance of its
terms as a condition precedent to my competing or participating at any show, clinic or other organized
event conducted or authorized by The SWA&ABPC Inc. and or any management committee appointed or
authorized by The SWA&ABPC Inc. and my acknowledgement that such may be pleaded by the
SWA&ABPC Inc. and or any management committee appointed or authorized by The SWA&ABPC Inc. as
a bar to any claim made or action taken by me.
