Mothers Day craft gift and card


*Mothers Day coasters using paddle-pop sticks
Students glue paddle-pop sticks together. They then colour an image and glue it on top of the
paddle-pop stick coaster, applying a layer of glue over the top to secure it.

Colour tints and shades monochromatic scale



Week 4 teacher directed. Set up tables with white, black and a single colour of paint. Give
students 1 A3 piece of paper each. Direct students to paint 1 white circle in the top left corner.
Continue to direct students to add a small amount of colour paint and paint an outer-circle.
Students continue doing this,
adding more paint each time. About halfway through,
`direct students to add very small amounts of black to
their artwork to create shades. The finished product
should look something like moonlight.

Week 5 Give students some black paper or paint to add the tree silhouette.

Warm & Cool colours



Week 6
*Watch the art attack lesson about warm and cool colours. Discuss their position
on the colour wheel.
*View the slideshow of various artists using warm and cool colours for visual
effect, e.g. Van Goghs Sunflowers
*Students create one warm and one cool painting in the style of concentric
circles. Leave to dry.

Complementary colours pencils/pastels



*Discuss complementary colours and their position on the colour wheel.
*Look at some Andy Warhol art and discuss his use of complementary
colours in pop art.
*Divide paper into equal sections, depending on letters in name, write name
in block letters in each section
*Choose two complementary colours in oil pastels and alternatively paint background and
letter.

Alternatively, you could follow a tutorial for how to draw a giraffe and have students
colour/paint giraffe in two complementary colours.

Andy Warhol/Roy Lichtenstein

*View slideshow of pop art and particularly artworks by Roy Lichtenstein.
Look at the way words can be used in conjunction with images, and his use of
primary colours.
*Students write their name at the top of a piece of A4 paper theses are
passed around the room and each student must add one positive word about
the person at the top of the page. By the end, students will have 21 positive words that their
classmates have written about them.
*Students choose their favourite word and create a pop image portrait in the style above.
