10. Communication and Collaboration (LO 4.

1) (APS 10)
A. Family Communication:
During the semester, I will be continuously communicating with
parents/guardians in order to create a partnership between school and
home. The first form of communication will be through an introduction
letter. This letter will be written to inform parents/guardians that I will
be working in their childs classroom. It will tell them a little bit about
myself, my background, and how excited I am to be working with their
child. These letters will be sent home with each student. Weekly
classroom newsletters are another way I will be communicating with
parents/guardians. An example of this introduction letter is attached.
The next form of communication with parents/guardians will be
through signed papers. Each Tuesday, a packet of graded papers from
the previous week will be sent home with each child.
Parents/guardians are to review these graded papers, then write any
notes or questions if necessary. These grades are sent home so that
parents and I can stay in constant communication about what their
child is doing and how they are doing. Parents are to sign and return
these to school with their child.
In addition to signed papers, each week I will send home a
newsletter. These newsletters will contain information about
curriculum being covered each week, lunch menu, and any other
important news. An example of this newsletter is attached.

I will also have parent/teach conferences in order to update

parents on their childs performance and behaviors, good or bad.
Parents/guardians will also be contacted through e-mails face-to-face
meetings, and phone calls.

B.

Communication/Collaboration with Colleagues:

I will be in constant communication with my grade level teachers

to plan our classroom curriculum. This will be done through face-toface meetings and e-mails. For those students who require addition
instruction in other classrooms, I will communicate their instructional
strategies and needs with those teachers through e-mails, written
letters, and face-to-face meetings.

C. Communication/Collaboration with Community

Members:
I will be communicating with community members multiple times
throughout the year. For example, 3rd grade will have a guest speaker
from Star Fort come to visit their classroom to give them a background
of the history of Star Fort before their field trip. There will be field trips
to the South Carolina State house and Star Fort. Arrangements will be
made through phone calls or e-mails. Pictures from our field trip will be
attached.

D. Plan for extra-curricular Involvement:

During my experience at Ninety-Six Elementary, I have become
very involved with several different activities. I have attended a PTO
meeting where they announced the upcoming carnival, and the 3rd
grade students performed several songs theyve been working on in
music class. I will be assisting with the planning and participating in
the carnival coming up on March 27th. I have also attended a parentteacher conference and communicated in writing with several parents
about their student. I am planning to attend and participate in a
retention meeting in the upcoming weeks. There have been two
Zaxbys fundraiser nights in order to raise money for the 4th grade field
trip, and I have attended both of those.
