PROJECT PROPOSAL
I am proposing the purchase of 48 Samsung Model 2
Chromebooks, and 2 charging security carts. These will help
with the efficiency of our standardized testing. This
purchase will also give students a better opportunity to
complete their homework on time, which should produce
higher grades and better test scores.

GRANTING INSTITUTION

The Kroger
Co.
Foundation

WHY I DID I CHOSE THIS FOUNDATION?

The goal of the Kroger Co. Foundation is to enhance
the quality of life in communities with a concentration
of Kroger customers and employees. The Kroger
store in Sterling, Illinois is located within 10 miles of
Montmorency School.

AMOUNT REQUESTED

We are requesting a grant in the amount of

$10,000. This will help to with the purchase of
48 Samsung Chromebook computers and 2
charging security carts.

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY?

We currently have two computer labs containing 24 computers in each

One lab is used for seven computer classes daily

The other lab is unstaffed and is used by appointment only (or full time during periods of
testing)

We have 18 different classes (2 at each K-8 grade level) within our school.
Most standardized testing is now done on the computer, rather than with a test
booklet and pencil

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY? (CONT.)

During periods of testing, we can only test 2 classes at a time. It takes almost
2 weeks to fully complete all testing.

There are no regular computer classes during those times because the lab is
being used as part of the testing.

With the addition of 48 Chromebooks, we could now test four classes at once,
instead of two. That would cut our testing time in half.

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY? (CONT.)

Most math assignments (grades 6-8) are now assigned online, as a part of our
new curriculum

There are 3 student computers available in the math room to service a class of
17.6 (school class average)

There are roughly 100 students in grades 6-8 that have math daily

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY? (CONT.)

During study hall, students may be given lab passes, which allow them to
work on home work in the computer lab. Most work on math homework.

There are 24 lab computers, and 10 classroom computers in the 6-8

classrooms to service 100 students.

Students are given time during computer class to work on their math
homework, which greatly limits instructional time.

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY? (CONT.)

More available computers means students have a better opportunity to
complete their assignments.

More work being handed in should lead to higher grades and better test
scores.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS PROJECT COST?

Samsung Chromebook Computers: $349.00 each
Amount Wanted: 48
Due to the volume purchased and that we are using the Chromebooks for
education, shipping and taxes will be waived. We will be getting these at

TRAINING
All students and staff will be trained on this technology by Mr. Petty, who is the
computer teacher and technology director at Montmorency School.

All 29 staff members will be trained on usage and proper storage at an

institute prior to the start of the school year.

All students will be instructed on how to properly use this technology during
the first few computer class meetings of the school year. Time will vary,
depending on class and grade.

TRAINING (CONT.)

All training will be worked into the normal

meeting and school schedule, therefore no
additional funding for training will be required.

HOW WILL THIS BE FUNDED?

Our Parent-Teacher Organization has generously offered to match
any donation(s) up to $7,500

We are sponsoring a 5k in September. Proceeds will be given to

the technology department to help fund this project

Remaining balance, if any, will come out of the annual technology

budget
