CRIME: Radon gives off radiation that can cause lung cancer.
CAUSE: Radon comes from the ground and can enter a building from the soil. You
can test your home for radon with an in-home Radon test kit. When necessary,
Radon can be removed from your home by instaling ventlation systems.

DESCRIPTION: Lead is a soft, bluish-gray heavy metal that is highly poisonous
and may be present in air, water, and soil.
CRIME: Children are most at risk from eating lead-contaminated paint chips, dust,
or soil. Lead poisoning can also affect blood, bones, and organs.
CAUSE: Lead has been phased out of many consumer products such as household
paint, batteries, and gas. Airborne lead comes from lead smelting and from burning
coal, oil, and waste.

temperature. Humans and animals exhale CO2 and plants breathe it in as they
make food with the process of photosynthesis.
CRIME: As Carbon Dioxide has built up in the Earths atmosphere, it has
contributed to global climate change
CAUSE: Carbon Dioxide is released into the air when fossil fuels are burned to
release energy in power plants, homes, factories, and vehicles.

DESCRIPTION: Chlorine is a greenish-yellow gas with a suffocating odor.
CRIME: Chlorine causes burning of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs.
CAUSE: Chlorine is used in plastics and synthetic rubber, it is also used for water
and wastewater disinfection. Swimming pools and spa chemicals may contain
chlorine and must be used properly.

POLLUTANT: Sulphur Dioxide (SO2)

DESCRIPTION: Sulphur Dioxide is a colorless gas with a strong odor and taste.
CRIME: Sulphur Dioxide can cause irritation and permanent damage to the lungs.
It contributes to the formation of acid rain, which damages plant and animal life
and buildings.
CAUSE: Sulphur Dioxide is from oil factories and the burning of fossil fuels at
power plants and in boilers.
