A follow-up workshop on ‘Text-book: Writing’ ‘was held at BIIT Conference Hall in Dhaka on 4 February 2011.Mr.M Azizul Hug, President of BIT presided over the workshop. Professor Dr. Md. Lutfur Rahman, Vice President of BIIT was the Special Guest and Mr. M Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIIT facilitated the workshop. About thirty-five (35) writers were present in the workshop. 2.1.8. Follow-up Workshop on Text-Book Writing Project A twoday long follow-up Workshop on ‘Text book Writing’ was held on 6-7 October 2011 at Conference Hall of BIT in Dhaka. On the first day, Prof. Dr. UAB Razia Akter Banu, Vice-President (publication) of BIT was the (Fates moderator of the workshop. Eight Text Book Writing teams participated in the workshop and the Coordinator of each team presented their ‘group progress report through multimedia, ‘Once the presentations were made, experts in the respective fields took part in the discussion that followed and gave their valuable comments and suggestions on the text books. Abdul Latif Masum, Dept. of Political Science & Governance, Jahangimagar University, AKM ‘former Additional Secretary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, were present as resource persons in the Workshop. The Workshop ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. ‘UAB Razia Akter Banu, She expressed her gratitude to the writers and reviewers for being with BIIT’s Text Book Writing Project and encouraged them to employ the potentials and expertise for the Islamization of knowledge in Bangladesh, On the 2nd day, seven Text Book writing teams attended the workshop. The Coordinator of each team presented the group progress report, using multimedia, Once the presentations were made, experts in the respective areas took part in the discussion that followed and gave their valuable comments and suggestions on their assigned Text books. Dr. Abu Khaldun Al-Mahmood, Vice President (Research) of BIIT was the moderator of the 2nd day Workshop. 2.2, Team Meetings on Text Book Writing Project 2.2.1.Team Meeting on Text-Book Writing Project ‘A Team meeting on Text Book Writing Project’ was held at International Islamic University Chittagong (UC) Female Campus, Dhanmondi, Ohaka on 17 November 2011. Prof M. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Chief, International Islamic University Chittagong (1IUC) Dhaka Campus, gave the inaugural speech and facilitated the meeting, Three Text Book Writing teams attended the meeting and presented their write-ups. After presentations, Prof. M. More than 30 (thirty) faculty members of different disciplines of various public and private universities of Dhaka city ‘were present in the program. 3.2. Discussion Curriculum Development A discussion meeting on ‘Curriculum Development’ Meeting on ‘was held at Islamic University Kushtia (IUK) on 23 July, 2011. Mr. M Azizul Huq, President of BIIT presided over the Meeting. Some Madrasha education experts like Professor Md. Yusof, Former Chairman, Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board were present in the program and gave their valuable opinions on the topic. 3.4. Seminar on Islamic Research Methodology A seminar on ‘Islamic Research Methodology’ was held at the BIIT Conference Hall, Dhaka on 4 February 2011. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Director (Research) Islami Bank Training & Research Academy (IBTRA), Dhaka and Dr. Abul Hossain, Project Director, Department of Women Affairs, Government of Bangladesh presented two papers on this topic. More than 30 teachers of various public and private universities of Dhaka were present in the seminars participants. 3.5. Seminar on Science and Technology workshop. 4.2. Seminar on Feminism as Islamophobia ‘A seminar on ‘Feminism as Islamophobia’ was held Conference Hall of BIIT on 23 August 2011. Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan of Department of English Language and Literature, International Islamic University Malaysia presented the key-note paper. About 70 (seventy) distinguished academics ‘were present in the seminar. 4.3. Lecture on New Trends of Islamic Education in Asia A Lecture entitled ‘New Trends of Islamic Education in South Asia’ was held at the BlIT Conference Hall, Dhaka on 5 February 2011. Professor Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, President of international Islamic University Islamabad (UN), Pakistan deliver lecture on the topic as the key-note speaker. More t teachers of different institutions of Dhaka were present in this program. 4.4, Lecture on Towards Understanding Islamic English A lecture program on Towards Understanding Islamic was held at Conference Hall of BiIT on 22 May 2011. Prof M. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Chief, International Islamic University Chittagang (\IUC) Dhaka Campus, facilitated the team meeting. Four Text Book Writing teams attended the meeting and the coordinator of each team presented their Chapter Write-up progress reports. 2.2.10.Team Meeting on Text-Book Whiting Project ‘A team meeting on ‘Text Book Writing Project’ was held at International Islamic University Chittagong (UC) Female Campus, Dhanmondi ‘A seminar on ‘Science and Technology in the Muslim Ummah’ was held at Islamic University Kushtia campus Chapter. Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, President, Bangladesh ‘Academy of Sciences was the key-note speaker while Dr. Lutfur Rahman, Vice-President of Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) was present as the Guest of Honor. More than 700 (seven hundred) teachers and students of this university took part in this seminar. 3.6. Exchange of Views Meeting with Curriculum Reform Committee ‘An exchange of views program on ‘Curriculum Reform’ was held at the Conference Hall of International Islamic University Chittagong (iIUC) on 1 June 2011. Professor Dr. Abu Bakar Rafiq, Vice Chancellor of IIUC, presided over the session and Mr, Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIIT was the key note speaker of the program. About 35 (thirty-five) teachers of different universities of Chittagong Zone participated in this program, 4.Seminar / Lecture / Workshop 4,1. Workshop on Madrasha Education System in Bangladesh Moving Forward: Observations from Singapore ‘A workshop on ‘Madrasha Education System in Bangladesh Moving Forward: Observations’ from Singapore! was held at BIAM, Dhaka on 19 March 2011, Saturday, in collaboration with The American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka, under the partnership program of BIIT. Four papers were presented and discussed in the workshop, About 80 (eighty) participants including Principals and teachers from different madrashas (both Alia and Quami systems) and religious educationists attended the International Literature, English teachers of different universities in Dhaka were present in the program. All officers of BIT were present in the lecture program as participants. 5. Training Program 5.1. Training on Legal Awakening with Moral Values A seven-day long training program on ‘Legal ‘Awakening with Moral Values’ was jointly organized by Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) and Bangladesh Islamic Law Research & Legal Aid Centre (BILR & LAC) in Dhaka in the period between 18 November and 9 December 2011. About 50 bankers, researchers, teachers of various universities and colleges, journalists, Islamic scholars and students attended the program. Shah Abdul Hannan, Chairman of the BIIT Trust and former Secretary of Bangladesh Government was present as the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. General Secretary of BILR & LAC Advocate Nazrul Islam delivered the welcome Address. The training program comprised 13 sessions. Professor Dr. Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury, Dept. of Political Science of Dhaka University, Mr. Siddique Hossain of North South University, Mr. Asafuddowla, former Secretary of Bangladesh Government, Barrister Haider Ali, former Secretary of Bangladesh Government, Mr. Azhar Habib, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Law of Dhaka teachers and students of various Dhaka-based public and private universities, 5.3.Staff Development Training ‘Atwo-days long Staff Development Training program was held at the BIT Conference Room from 31 July 2011 to 1 August 2011. All officers of BIIT actively participated in the training program. Mr. M Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIT was the trainer of the training program. 5.4. Weekly Study Circle About 18 (eighteen) study circle sessions were held with the members and fellows of BIIT during this period Mr. Shah Abdul Hannan, Chairman of BlIT Trust and an ‘eminent scholar of Bangladesh was the moderator of the sessions. 6.Exchange of Views 1. About 40 persons of different professionals were present in the views exchange meeting which was followed by iftar. 6.3. Exchange of Views with Iranian Cultural Center {An exchange of Views meeting between Iranian Cultural Centre, Dhaka and BIIT was held at BIIT Conference Hall ‘on 28 May 2011. Mr. Mohammad Oraei Karimi, Cultural Counselor, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Professor Dr. Lutfur Rahman, Vice-President of BIIT and Mr.M Abdul Aziz Executive Director of BIIT were present on the occasion. They discussed shared areas of interests and mulled over possible cooperation between the two organizations in future. 6.4. Discussion on Time Management A discussion program on Time Management’ was held at Conference Room of BIIT on 21 December 2011. Workshop on Towards Quality Publication ‘A workshop on Towards Quality Publication’ was held at Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) conference room on 17 August 2011. Shah Abdul Halim, Chairman, Islamic Information Bureau Bangladesh, Dr. Mohammad Ayub Miah, Former Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, ‘Muhammad Obaidullah, PhD Researcher of iIUM and ‘Mr Mid. Asraful slam. a fellow of BIT presented the oe following papers respectively: ‘a. Quality Work: How Important It Is? Publication A Guide for Authors, Translators and Copy-Editors of IIT Style-Sheet 4d. Bangla Banan Riti of Bangla Academy Distinguished writers, translators, reviewers and editors were present in the workshop. Mr. M. Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIIT gave the introductory speech ‘of the Workshop. 8.BIIT Library 1530 (fifteen hundred and thirty) copies of 1303 (thirteen hundred and three) categories of books, 141 copies of journals, 2 CDs and 11 cassettes were added to the BIT library during the period under report. Among these 243 (two hundred forty three) copies of English books, 218 (two hundred eighteen) copies of Bangla books were donations from different sources, 106 (one hundred six) copies of books were issued to 78 (seventy eight) readers. Right now, 6976 (six thousand nine hundred and seventy six) books are available in BIIT Central library. 9, Marketing of Publication In order to promote sales and marketing of IIT and BIIT publications, a lot of measures were taken to reach the major corners of Dhaka and Chittagong division. In this way, 4094 books were sold for about Taka seven lakhs during the period under report. 9.1. Executive Director Visited 10S in India IMr.M. Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIT participated in the International Conference on Towards Knowledge, Future on 15-17 April 2011. It was held at the Institute of Objective Studies (10S), New Delhi, India. He presented a paper on ‘Reforming University Education: Bangladesh Experience’ at the conference. 10.3, Executive Director met with IIIT President Mr.M. Inttoducing BIIT Publications ‘A meeting on ‘introduction of BIIT Publications’ was held at Islamic Foundation Auditorium, Chittagong on 24 July 2011. Mr. M. Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIT spoke on this occasion. More than 40 (forty) bookshop owners, publishers and distributors were present in the program as participants. 11.1.5. Meeting with Library and Book Shops Owners A Publication Introducing Meeting with library and bookshop owners was held at the Chittagong chapter office of BIT on 31 May 2011. Mr. M Abdul Aziz, Executive Director of BIIT was the Chief Guest of the program. Shahidul Islam, Assistant Director of BlIT were present as the Chairperson and Chief Guest of the program J respectively. 11.4.Shylhet Chapter Two officers of BIIT visited Shylhet on 26-28 July 2011 During their visit they organized an exchange of views meeting with the teachers of Shahajalal University of Science and Technology at Holiside, Sylhet. Ten different faculty members of this University were present in the program. They actively participated in the program and gave their valuable suggestions to the BIIT. The delegation also met with prominent bankers, doctors and bookshop owners in Sylhet. 12. Reports on BIT Memberst 12.1. Achieved PhD Degree Mohammad Enayetullah Patwary achieved a PhD degree from Chittagong University in April 2011. He did his PhD studies with a fellowship of the University Grant Commission (UGC), Bangladesh under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hasan Muhammad. The title of this thesis is The Role of Islamic Parties in the Politics of Bangladesh (1971-2000), He is a Research Fellow of BiIT and an Associate Professor of Chittagong University. 12.2. Bereavements 12.21. Prof. Dr. U.A.B.Razia Akter Banu no more An eminent scholar and servant of Islam Professor Dr. U. A. B. Razia Akter Banu (1948-2011) died in Singapore National Hospital on 1 December 2011. She was suffering from brain cancer. She left behind her husband, two sons and one daughter, a host. of relatives and friends. She was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Dhaka where she taught for more than 30 years. Her scholarly works was published in different national and International journals. She authored several books. She participated in many international seminars and conferences organized by different universities and organizations. She received awards from various national and international institutions for her academic contributions, She got a Gold Medal from the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh on 24 November 1993, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Scholarship, U.K. (1987-1988), a Post Doctoral Fellowship by the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore, 1991-1992, Senior Fulbright Fellowship by the United States Information Agency in 1995, Visiting Research Fellowship, Institute of Developing Economies (IDE), Tokyo, Japan in 1996,and Japan Foundation Fellowship News Letter) for 2002-2003. She visited England, America, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Spain, South Africa and Sri Lanka, She was a member and life member of different national and international social and research organizations. She was the editor of Bangladesh Journal of Islamic Thought (BJT. It is worth mentioning that few days before her death she told her husband that after her retirement she would devote herself full time for the cause of Islam. 12.22.Dr Mohammad Loqman Passed Away Professor Dr. Mohammad Logman, Chief of International Islamic University Chittagong-Dhaka Campus and a Fellow of BIT, passed away on 24 June 2011, He was 68. He is survived by his wife, 3 (three) daughters, 2 (two) sons, a host well-wishers. 12.2.2. Prof Mir Kamal Chowdhury Professor Mir Kamal Chowdhury, Lecturer International Islamic University Chittagong-Dhaka Campus and Asian University of Bangladesh, passed away on 2 March 2011.
