CONTEXTUAL FACTORS (e.g. ethnicity, gender, exceptionalities, ELL, GATE, etc.) which need differentiation
in instruction and assessment.
*My class has 29 students in it and 24 of them are Caucasian. Of the remaining 5 students, I have 3
Hispanic, 1 Asian, and 1 pacific islander student.
*There are 16 males and 13 females in the class.
*4 of the students require accommodations.
*The class is well behaved, and engaged.

Students will collaborate as a group, using technology and the internet, to
share and update a creative project.

Students will create a shared document that each of them will contribute
to. The will use technology along with the discussion from this unit to
create a Utopian society.

Students will share their group project with me so that I can monitor them
throughout the unit. I will verbally assess understanding and learning
throughout the lesson. Student discussion will also help me assess student
learning.

Students will turn in completed project and take a summative test on the
text we have read.

I will give individual time to ELL and

given outside help from their Sped
teacher.

Activate Prior Knowledge/Experiences


Students will make comparisons from the text and movie that was based on
the text. Students will discuss a power point mini-lesson on theme to help
them better understand and identify the main themes found in the text.
Students will be given chrome books and class time to finish their Utopia
Project with their group members. I will be available to help during this
time.
Students will review the text in preparation for the final exam.
Focus Lesson (I do it)
I will give examples of the difference between theme and main idea.
I will give students ideas of how to incorporate and use the internet and
technology for their Utopia Project.

help and assess their comprehension

As a class we will find the main idea and theme of a text.
As a class we will discuss ways to incorporate technology into their project.

Students will work with their groups to create a Utopian society.
Independent (You do it alone)
Each student will be responsible for a part of the Utopia project to complete
on their own.
Summarization/Closure: We will discuss the requirements for the final
project and how to virtually work as a group. Students will be given a
review for the final exam and have the opportunity to ask questions.
Revisit Essential Questions:Student will answer essential questions during
the lesson and upon turning in their project.

REFLECTION AFTER LESSON

How can I use the assessment data to reflect on & evaluate the outcomes of teaching and learning? How can I transfer
what I learned from teaching this lesson to future teaching? What was effective and not effective? What goals can I set to
improve my practice and student learning?
The lesson went well. Students didnt have as many questions as I thought they might. Students understood the difference
between theme and main idea. Students have a good grasp of technology and how to incorporate it into their projects.
