Dear Mr. Johnson,
I grew up in northern New Jersey listening to Howie Rose call New York Mets games. His
description of plays is poetic, his feel for when to talk (and, more importantly, when not to talk)
is brilliant, and his passion for the game is evident. He is the reason I fell in love with baseball,
and it was him that sent me down the path of sports broadcasting. Ever since those humble
beginnings in the north Jersey suburbs, I have come a long way as a broadcaster, not only in
baseball, but in all kinds of sports. This is why I believe I am the perfect candidate for the
position of Play-by-Play Major League Baseball Announcer.
Since my freshman year at Rowan University, I have been an active member of the schools
radio station, WGLS-FM. My experience at the station includes providing play-by-play and color
commentary for Rowan University baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and softball games. In
addition, I serve as Public Affairs Director for WGLS, meaning I bring Community Relations
and Public Service expertise to the table. I am a Writing Arts major and a Journalism minor,
which gives me an edge in regards to information gathering and interviewing, two crucial aspects
of sports broadcasting. My qualifications are deep and varied, which helps me prepare for any
assignment that may come my way.
Being a Mets fan, I was happy to find out that Gary Cohen contributed to Westwood One Sports
as a broadcaster. After having discovered his relationship with the network, I had the chance to
hear him call some college basketball games for your company, and it only furthered my
admiration and appreciation for the Westwood One Sports family. Another one of your
contributors, John Sadak, is an alumnus of Rowan University, and former member of WGLS.
Listening to him call any sports game is always a treat.
I admire Westwood One Sports a great deal, and would love the opportunity to contribute in any
way I can. Thank you for considering me, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
