chosenpassword.

discussioninordertohavethemdeveloptheirskillsinacontrolledenvironmentwhenhelpis

Practiceactivity:

ThestudentswouldtakeapreviouslydesignedassessmentonEdmodowhichisaboutthe
basicsofdigitalcitizenshiptofurtherpracticewiththetoolsofferedonEdmodo.Theywillneed
toaccessthewebsiteontheirownandlogintotheirpersonalaccount.Fromtheretheywould
needtoaccesstheassessmentassignedtothemonEdmodoandcompleteitwiththe
answerstheyfeelarebestbeforessubmittingit.

Asthelessonwillinevitablyinvolvecomputeruseandaccesstotheinternet,thelessonitself
isameansofestablishinggooddigitalcitizenshipawarenessaswellasrefineitallthemoreif
theyhadpreviousexperience.

Throughtheverynatureofthesiteitself,thestudentswouldseegoodcommunicationskills
modelledaswellasproperetiquettebetweentwoormorepersonsontheinternet.Literacy
wouldbeenhancedastheverynatureofnearlyallthingsonthesiterequireliteracytosome
degreeandwithmorepracticethestudentswouldonlybeabletobecomemoreliteratewhen
propercommunicationskillsaremodelled.

reinforcethestudentsunderstandingoftherightsandresponsibilitiesofboththemselvesas
wellaseveryoneelseonthewebasthestudenttrulylearnsabouttheirresponsibilitiesto
obeythecopyrightlawsandtherightsoftheirownworkaswellasothers.Thiswouldalsobe
agoodpointonsharingwiththestudentshowcommerceisprotectedandfurtheredbythe
responsibleuseofcopyrightedinformation,andhowplagiarismandpiratingdamages
commerce.

Furtherelaboratingonthepreviouspointofsharinginformation,thestudentswouldalsobe
taught(forthefirsttime,orhavingitreinforcediftheywerealreadyfamiliarwiththenotion)of
passwordsecurityandhowtoprotectthemselvesonlinefromhavingtheirinformationstolen
byotherswhetheritbefromsharingtheirpassword,makingverysimplepasswordsthatare
alltoeasytogetinto,leavingtheiraccountsopenonpubliccomputers,etc.Alongsidethisthe
studentswouldalsobeabletodevelopanunderstandingofwhatisappropriatetoshareona
publicforumandwhatisnot(particularpictures,comments,views,etc).

Inevitablythelessonrequirescomputeruseandprovidesawealthofinformationavailableto
thestudentsoabitofdiscussiononhowtoremainhealthyandfitinaworldwherejustabout
everythingonecandesireisavailablethroughacomputerthatsimplyrequiresonesit.

Forthosewhofinishearly,thestudentwouldbeabletoperusethesiteandtrulylearnabout
allthedifferenttoolsthatareofferedand/orfollowappropriatelinkstoinformationthestudent
findsinteresting.Forthosestudentswhorequiremoretime,oncetheiraccountissetup(the
initialpartofthelesson)thentheycanuseasmuchtimeasrequiredfromanyothercomputer
eitherbeforeorafterclassifoneisunavailableathome,orathomeiftheyhavethemeans.
Thesummativeassessmentwouldnotrequireanyotherinformationoutsidewhatwasoffered
inclassandthusanystudentswhohadtocompletetheassignmentoutsideoftheallotted
timewouldnotbeatadisadvantage.

studentstoreinforcethroughfurtherpracticetheirabilitytoaccessEdmodo,showingtheir
computerandwebbrowsingskills,accesstheassessmentwhichdemonstratestheirabilityto
findspecifictoolsthroughthesite,andbycompletingaquizondigitalcitizenshipthestudent
willdemonstrateanunderstandingoftheresponsibilitiesofaprivatecitizeninaglobaldigital
