MATIRE TRANGRE

Through an analysis of perception, the invisible and imaginary beings, this essay
advances the idea that our collective imaginary world since the beginning of the
19th century, has been structured by the opposition between two figures : the
vampire and the machine.

TRANGRE
Beyond the conformist defence of social norms and the romantic valuation of
difformity, this criticism of the idea of the normal man questions our conceptions
of norms and the desire of norm, to assert a plurality of ways to live within
norms, endowed with meaning only insofar as they are thought subjectively and
existentially.
This new series aims at confronting philosophy with whatever surrounds it, what
belongs to other forms of speech or even to everyday life. It opens up a new space
of expression where a new way of writing philosophically, of arguing and of assessing issues, becomes possible : with themes, questions and domains that stand outside
the usual concepts and the determined history of philosophy.

LES MALADIES DE LHOMME NORMAL
Exploring the variety of meanings in human experience, from politics to sex, love and
subjectivity, the author tries to uncover the arbitrary worlds of our lives where our
passions intervene, according to the general requirements of an ethics of meaning.

This short introductory essay on religion and its anthropological meaning is further
illustrated by two texts, one by Simmel and the other by Thomas Aquinas.

Introduction Th.-D.Humbrecht

The Valladolid debate on the treatment of the natives of the New World shook the

The Renaissance movement really begins with Gemistus Pletho. He was one of the
first to claim a return to Plato and the Ancients, in a Western world dominated by
the figure of Aristotle. This scholarly study focuses on Plethos conception of faith,
idealism and affirmative theology.

Four 14th Century thinkers have acknowledged the existence of real propositions,
corresponding to declarative statements. It is argued that propositional realism can
thus be construed as a proper philosophical position, distinct from universal realism,
and leading to distinct semantic and ontological theories.

Shiite Islam, insofar as its beliefs and practices remain rather unknown, can be
considered as a discrete religion. This study shows that its consistence and coherence
lie in the figure of the Imam, in the role of initiation and in an anthropological/
ontological dualism.

VOIR LHISTOIRE.
History is vision, in the sense of testimony but also is the sense of letting us see forms
of the past. But what do we see when we see history?, and what is the historian
actually doing when he lets us see it? This essay inquires into Ancient theories of
historical tale to address these questions.
This book is an actual reflexion on political existence of individuals and their moral

Ricoeur has been a great reader of Aristotle on friendship. This book offers a new
interpretation of these two thinkers, the ethical and metaphysical issues they address,
and provides an understanding of the status of the other in friendship.

This first volume explores political and existential themes in Armenian literature of
the 20th Century, as it developed in conditions of extreme hardship.
Intellectual virtues have come back on the forefront of philosophical thinking. This
issue traces the history of this notion and states the new advances on this question.

Six subversive stories accounting for the anihilation of the Armenian people as it has
been lived intimately.
Can nothingness be accounted for? Against nihilism, can something be said about
a presence of the non-being? These issues are addressed in this new volume of the
Cahiers where linguists, theologians and logicians confront their points of view.
ART ET POLITIQUE
Carole Talon-Hugon (dir.)
art politiquement engag.
The arts interact in a complex way with politics, whether they are seen as creating
social bounds or as developing possibly dangerous forms of expression. This issue
examines the conflicting views on this subject.

In this new issue, the transcendance around which the thought of Levinas evolves
is under scrutiny. It is argued that only a philosophy centered on the other as he
appears can foster a dialogue between judaism and christianity.
