Definition (10.2 Exponential Order). A function f (t) is said to be of


exponential order as t if there are constants , M , and t1 such that

Notation. If f (t) is of exponential order , we write


f (t) = O(et) (as t ).

O(et) is read as Big Oh of et.


Example.
(1) f (t) = e5t sin 2t.

|f (t)| = |e5t sin 2t| e5t =


f (t) = O(e5t)
f (t) is exponential order 5.
