Aiken began teaching Math during the weck of January 26-30,20t5. This week's math lesson focused on tens
and ones. More specifically it was aligned to CCSS 1.NBT.2 : Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number

ways to make numbers, number, and counting with groups of 10 and leftovers. The following strengths were
identified during the week's lessons: lncorporated technology (pearsonsuccess.net), manipulatives (place value
mat, tens, ones, connecting cubes), introduced and utilized specificterminology (tens, ones, digits, break apart a
ten), utilized higher thinking by asking "how" and "why" questions. Ms. Aiken also used multiple strategies that

instruction, one-on-onc and small

Some of the weaknesses identifierJ during thc lcssons included classroom management and

time.

As

the lessons

were being taught some studcnts were off task (gctting up without permission and talking). Additionally, 60
minutes is set aside for math with an additional 30 minutes if needed. The lessons exceeded the time restraints
within the schedule.

-Work on time restraints (utilize a timer so that time is not wasted if lesson is taught with fidelity.
-Prepare in advance for the ncxt day (chcck for any tcchnical issues and materials that may be needed.
-Create your own award system to cncourage participation and minimize classroom distractions.
